33cl bottle from Etre Gourmet web shop. F: medium, pale tanned, good retention. C: brown, hazy. A: woody, bit vanilla, rum, mellow fruity, caramel, port wine, dried fruits. T: rich malty base, bit woody, rum touch, fruity, dry herbal bitterness on the palate, bit nutty, boozy, bready, caramel, soft carbonation, aroma was promising for me but taste is not so nice, ok, not disaster and BA saison beer style is not always good idea.

Dark amber colour, white foam. Nose of strong alcohol, solvent, rum, some caramel sweetness. Unbalanced. Sharp. Not very good.

Säuerlich alkoholischer Beginn, etwas trocken, minimale Herbe, vergleichsweise süffig. Spritzig, herb-würzig, Mittellanger Abgang, Rum. Okay. 9/10/9/9/8/9

Soo difficult to rate...

A brown beer, a head is medium and beige. Aroma has fruitness that's more type of dried fruits, raisin, barrel, spicyness, also some rum. Taste has dried fruitness of raisin, some spicyness, dry barrel, rum. Medium+ bodied. The barreling is quite strong.

One of the barrel aged versions of Struise's strong saison, this one on Weber Haus Cachaca Premium Brazilian Rum barrels, but ABV on the label is 11% rather than the 11.5% given here; I assume it is the same beer though (considering the margin of 0.5% ABV applied on this site). Yellowish pale beige-ecru coloured, mousy, somewhat irregular and large-bubbled but thick head, slowly dissipating and opening but generally well-retaining for such a strong beer; beautifully warm and 'automny' copper-bronze robe with burgundy red hue, misty from the start. Strong aroma with a very dominant presence of white rum (Bacardi-like), vanilla-like oak wood, caramel, dry biscuit, ground hazelnuts, almond, persimmon, old decaying coconut flesh, fresh paint, nail polish remover even, very old port, candied fig, plum jam, brown bread, fried apples, bitter dark green tree leaves, hint of old dried ham or beef jerky. Sweetish onset, old raisins, dried figs, prunes, with a relatively outspoken sourish undertone, quite fizzy carbonation; full but smooth, in the end somewhat powdery mouthfeel, thinned by the booze. Brown-bready and dry-nutty maltiness indeed gets penetrated by a strong alcohol effect early on, burning away on the surface of the tongue, with, needless to say, a very outspoken white rum flavour, sweet and bitter, but in the end more bitter due to the astringent effect of the alcohol, impairing drinkability a bit. Drying woody tannins are very pronounced as well - old barrels, even oak furniture, further establishing a somewhat harsh, astringent finish, in which bready malts and yeast linger alongside a slightly 'rusty' but generally strong oxidation effect, a herbal and somewhat rooty hop bitter presence and quite some varnish-like solvent effects, though fortunately somewhat less sharp than feared based on the nose. Bready, sweetish though nowhere actually 'sugary' sweet, ending very dry and very boozy: this feels a bit out of balance, with the rum taking over the beer to an extent that I personally find too much. I also wonder how a dark 11% beer still qualifies as a 'saison', but I guess this term is (and has always been) 'loose' and stretchable enough to find an argument for that somewhere - maybe they used some or other saison yeast strain... In any case: an intense boozer, but too boozy and solventy for its own good. Five years in a barrel that probably still contained a considerable amount of rum (or indeed cachaca) seems over the top here... Struise can do a whole lot better. Benefit of the doubt, at best, but certainly not worthy of its price tag.
