Energy Equals is a companion beer to MC². It completes the equation. We start with MC² as a base and incorporate the well received process we like to refer to as the ‘Energy Dry Hop’ which gives this beer an intense brightness and flavor. Energy Equals has enhanced flavor characteristics of mango, pineapple, citrus, and apricot. With the new technique in place, we notice a much deeper flavor profile while being extremely bright and lighter in body. It’s extremely crushable with our EQ juice finish.

Tall can from brewery. Murky dark yellow, minimal head. Aroma of mango, sour oranges, pineapple, tropical fruit. The flavor is very fruit juicy. Slight bitterness. No hint of 8% abv here at all. NE IPAs are getting too fruit juicy for me.

Fairly hazy raw honey, golden and peach coloured body with a relatively thin off-white head that fades fast. Aroma of oranges, grapefruit, guava and a dash of slightly funky soured grapes with a big malt backbone and alcohol in the nose. Medium-bodied; Very fruity flavours dominate with oranges, grapefruit, guava and especially mango notes with some light vanilla, lactose and soft sugars all noticeable, all with a relatively pungent alcohol bite at the end that shows a light, but noticeable astringency and warmth. Aftertaste shows more strong flavours and deep bitterness - not from the hops, but from the alcohol and malt and briging in some sugars and especially fruit to temper the flavours, with a strong citrusey finish and the vanilla/lactose/cream that finishes things off fairly nicely, but strong. Overall, a decent IPA that really shows lactose, vanilla, fruits, juice and balance - but in a slightly pungent and strong way. Nice to sample, while not the best in the style, a good enough example to have! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from the Department of Beer and Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 19-June-2020 for US$6,56 sampled at my house here in Washington on 03-July-2020.

$5.75 pint can, whoa! Hate those unpriced singles... but only after I look at the receipt. Murky orange with a tiny, soft white head. Nose is funky citrus, rot, pine, resin. Flavor is pine, resin, citrus peel, apricotty finish.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned in 8/2019. Pours opaquely hazy deep golden/orange/amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, wood, light peppercorn/pine, honey, wheat, white bread dough, biscuit, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and dark/bready malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, wood, light peppercorn/pine, honey, wheat, white bread dough, biscuit, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, wood, light peppercorn/pine, honey, wheat, white bread dough, biscuit, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a fantastic malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness, Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready/grainy, fairly sticky, and lightly resinous mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 8%. Overall this is an incredible NEDIPA. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the ABV, with the mellowly bitter/resinous/drying finish; amazingly soft/silky feel for the ABV. Feels like Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe. Extremely juicy, vibrant, and lightly dank/earthy hops; with a perfectly balanced wheat/oat/malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazingly spot on style example as expected.
