Serious hop bitterness, along with an unyielding grapefruit bouquet from the Amarillo dry hop, balances the malty richness of four varieties of imported Belgian caramel malts. Pours a spectacular crimson with a creamy tan head. A generous addition of rye malt accentuates a spicy, crisp finish.

Very hazy red-amber beer. Decent creamy tan head. Airy palate, semi crisp and semi dry. Bitterish orange marmalade but also with a little sweet orange and subtle pine. Spicy rye malt cream. Semi dry finish and a bitterish aftertaste. Nicely joined up and hugely quaffable.

Hoppy nose, mainly pine needles, perhaps marigold, but generous amounts of grapefruit and honey are also there. Hazy ochre, with a medium yellow head, decent lacing. Bitter and tart to begin, pine needles throughout, but finishes less bitter and heartier with lightly toasted malt. There is a light woodiness that teases the palate. Quite bitter. Decidedly not sweet, which was a most welcome change for me. An ESB-ish IPA, and very delicious.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-caramel color with a large orange-white head. The aroma was strong fruity and floral hops though a bit rough with light nutty and caramel malts underneath. The flavor was strong fruity and piney hops again a bit rough with light caramel, nut and a hint of pineapple. Medium length finish of caramel and pine. A bit of a crystal malt presence. Medium body. Solid

Pours a rich mahogany with added red highlights with a tan head....rye detected in aroma and flavor....hearty thick malt hold this thing together...a nice hop presence (lemon+grapefruit)...in mouth and nose....balanced perfectly....caraway seed too....so easy to drink, yet complex enough to enjoy slowly.....Ive used this in beer bread and it was excellent!!

12oz shorty bottle. Unfiltered orange-brown color. Sweet, thick bitter aroma. Malty and rich, with a serious earthy hop profile. Some amber malt notes collide with the hops, almost peppery. Bitter finish. Quite a well done beer, rich, but balanced. Great.

12 ounce bottle from Greenlife Grocery in Asheville, NC. Pours a slightly hazy vibrant red color with a thin head. Decent retention and lacing. Very dry aroma with strong citrus hops and assertive rye notes. The taste starts off fruity, with notes of citrus, particularly lime and grapefruit, peach and pear. Bitter finish of citrus hops and rye. Citrus is all over the place in this one. Medium-full bodied.

Bottle on 11/28/2008 in the Great Butters Tasting of 2008. Very slightly hazy copper body with a medium creamy light tan head. Big caramel, some rye, and a big citrus and floral hop aroma. More caramel, light rye and citrus and floral hop flavor with a dry floral bitter finish. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.

(10/13/08) Draught at Map Room in Chicago. Hazy red color with medium off-white head. Aroma of hops and some citrus. Flavor has notes of malt, toastiness and caramel and rye hints but mostly bitter hoppiness with some grapefruit. Medium-bodied and a creamy mouthfeel.
