IPA Brewed with Rye

Serious hop bitterness, along with an unyielding grapefruit bouquet from the Amarillo dry hop, balances the malty richness of four varieties of imported Belgian caramel malts. Pours a spectacular crimson with a creamy tan head. A generous addition of rye malt accentuates a spicy, crisp finish.

World Cup Beer tasting at Lazy Boy Saloon Beer #4. Pour is a nice reddish amber. Its nutty hoppy with slight caramel and the rye lingers along with some bitterness. I’ve now drank my way out of my hangover and can enjoy the rest of my impromptu tasting

This beer is a red amber liquid with a nice head. It’s relatively clear and glows when backlit. The smell is a lot hoppier than I was expecting. There are some big pine and citrus hop aromas on this one with an underlying spiciness. The flavor is not the overwhelming rye-ness that I was expecting. The slightly sour rye notes are there, but they don’t dominate. There’s wonderful sweet malt and bitter hops. Everything works in balance and in a complementary fashion. The feel is refreshing yet full, but the rye just pushes the whole package over the edge from great to exceptional. Red’s Rye is a very, very well-crafted beer.

Bottle. Pours a clear reddish amber with a thin very light brown head. Aroma has strong pine notes with a hint of rye and a touch of citrus. Flavor starts with a strong pine note and a strong presence of rye. The finish is more just pine based with a bit of sweet malt and rye.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Wine and Beer Westpark, 12/27/09

Aroma: Nose has some caramel along with a lot of citrus/resiny/floral hop notes
Appearance: Pours a hazy caramel red color with a frothy white head
Flavor: Taste is medium bitter with a mellow sweetness from the caramel/rye
Palate: The body is medium, with average carbonation and a nice mouthfeel
Overall Impression: This is a pretty nice beer, I didn't get much of the rye in the nose, but it does come through in the flavor. A nice hop profile that includes all of the citrus, pine, floral, and resin characteristics is joined by a nice caramel malt and rye flavor. The flavors really all meld very nicely.

Pale amber color with a fluffy white head that settles quickly to leave decent lacing. Aroma is of freshly baked pumpernickel bread. Flavor has a broad combination of light brwon spices with a background of yeast and pine. Medium body. A nice example of the style, rye flavors really shine through.
