IPA Brewed with Rye

Serious hop bitterness, along with an unyielding grapefruit bouquet from the Amarillo dry hop, balances the malty richness of four varieties of imported Belgian caramel malts. Pours a spectacular crimson with a creamy tan head. A generous addition of rye malt accentuates a spicy, crisp finish.

Bottled. Clear reddish color, short lasting off-white head. Aroma of floral hops, toasted malts, quite fruity, notes that remind me of heather(honey). Spicy and citrussy bitterness on a big malty backbone. Quite dry and crisp, but the citrussy sweetness makes it very drinkable.

Bottle. This is the kind of beer I find very hard not to like. Pours an unclear caramel amber, with a creamy, short lived head. Good, perfumed pine aromas, with notes of flowers, oranges and sweet fruits. Taste is caramel and honey, with fruits, oranges, and a good bitterness. Staying finish with pleasant bitterness of lemon/ orange peel.

On tap at the Book House Pub. Pours a dark amber color with a thin, persistent head and tons of lacing. The aroma is floral hops, orange rind, and rye bread. The flavor is strong malt sweetness and very bitter, but surprisingly balanced. The palate is silky and smooth, fairly heavy, and finishes clean. Overall, a great beer.

Had as Red's Rye PA back in '11..bit more malt than hops but the flavor is good. More grapefruit than tangerine.

Bottle. It pours a slightly unclear copper color and a small, dense, off-white to beige head. Slightly tooth-paste like in the nose, with resiny, peachy hops. Malty background. The flavor is sweet and malty, with a fine bitterness and hoppy flavors soon kicking in and running the show. Medium to full body with smooth carbonation. The finish is of the lasting and bitter finish. A nice one, but too sweet in my book. 110524

Not much of a head, but the gorgeous hazy red color makes everything okay. The nose falters a little, giving up a lot of sweet malt and a hint of rye, but nothing close to the huge flavor that lies ahead. Very heavy on the rye, more so than nearly any other rye beer I’ve tried, yet so, so deliciously well done. The semisweet malts allow plenty of room for the rye tang and bitterness to play, eventually settling into a long, dry, peppery finish. Drinks as smooth as possible, meaning that sixer won’t last very long. Great beer. (3/3/09)

355ml bottle carried back home from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo. Reddish-brown body, semi-cloudy. Lots of dimples to a beige head displaying spotty lacing. Succulent aroma of red orange. Fresh fruity taste of orange and grapefruits added by juicy malts and followed by the sharpness of citrus peels. Bitter, spiced ending. Drinks very well (Tromsø, 25.04.2011).
