This is pure brew art. Black beer with a deliciously rich taste of roughly roasted coffee, dark cacao and smokey whisky. Long evolving aftertaste. Very good, a beer to write a song about.

Stark malziger Antrunk, rund, etwas alkoholisch. Mild röstig, nussig, zum Ende alkoholischer werdend. Zum Ende leichte Whiskeynoten. Gut! 11/11/8/12//11/12

On tap at CBC 2012. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Chocolate-malty aroma. Starts earthy-malty, strong, soft chocolate notes. Finish warming-malty, a bit alcoholic, but well balanced. Great beer!

Bottle. Pours oil black with dark brown head. Nose and taste of vanilla, roast chocolate malt, whiskey, oak, smoked brownie. A touch bit too much of whiskey. Medium body.

Bottled, febr 2012. Black color, medium lasting brown head. Aroma of chocolat, coffee, bit grainy, hint of grapes, molasses. Apart from the barrel aging, it does have some similarities to a certain Double Oatmeal Stout. I noticed on the label there should be some barrel aging, although it was hard to find out what kind. Not bourbon or peated whisky, more mellow and now that I see ratebeer, it’s speyside whisky. Ok, fair enough. In taste it’s quite dry, some wood and quite boozy. A bit too boozy actually. I can recall I said that about the H&V misto as well, but this one has aged for over a year, so it cant be that it’s too fresh. It’s just too boozy.

Deep midnight black pour, 3 finger coffee coloured head. Nose is oatmeal, creamy lactose and vanilla. Lovely bourbon notes. very little roasted coffee character. Sweet and chocolatey, no bourbon burn, the 12% is barely noticeable. Wow. great job!

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a big creamy mocca head. Aroma is tremendous, with nice burned malts, liquorice, tobacco and peat, as well as coffee and lots of dark fruits. Normal body, with an oily, sticky texture and soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet with burned malts, coffee, leather and tobacco, as well as dark fruits, kandi and molasses. The sweetness lingers on with kandi and dark fruits in the finish. Very good.

Opaque black beer, little dark tan head. Woody malt nose. Palate is smooth and dense. Low carbonation. Rich dark malt with a good dose of coffee. Wet wood - mild. Mild minerals. Subtle dark chocolate and red berry fruits. Good stuff but I didn’t think this was up to Menno’s usual super high standard.
