Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); best barley malt, yeast and aromatic hops; fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create a relatively dry ale with rich nutty colour and palate of beech nuts, almonds and walnuts.

Good,clean ale.I don't have much experience froom brown ales.could be dryer.smooth taste,but could expect more of it.

A dark reddiesh-brown beer, a head is medium and light beige. Aroma has dried fruitness of raisin, some roastiness. Taste has dried fruitness, raisin, some breadyness, not too sweet. Almost medium bodied. Surprisingly, lots of dried fruitness.

Bottle. Malty, syrupy, nutty aroma. Sweetish with maple syrup and a nutty bitterness. Hint of licorice. Caramel. Decent.

Bottle, 0.55l. Clear cola-brown/red pour, two finger frothy beige head. Good retention, medium lasting, lots of lacing on the glass. Malty, nutty nose with herbal notes in the background. Thin to medium body, soft carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel and texture, a bit lightweight. Slightly roasted bittersweet taste, malty aroma. Caramel, roasted malt. Nuts, herbs and spices, fruity background. Short to medium finish, subtle lingering bitterness. Nicely balanced and flavorful. Good one.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - deep brown with an off white head. Nose - hazelnut, walnut and pistachio. Toffee. Taste - walnut and toffee again. Palate - close to medium bodied, creamy middle. Rich but dry finish. Overall - great example of the style.

355 ml bottle. Clear brown, foamy head. Roasted malt, caramel, dry citrus, breadcrumbs, metal. Malty sweetness, dry bitterness. Medium bodied, watery texture, soft carbonated, dry malty finish. Okay.
