Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); best barley malt, yeast and aromatic hops; fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create a relatively dry ale with rich nutty colour and palate of beech nuts, almonds and walnuts.

Clear, brown colored with a red hue, medium beige frothy head. Aroma is of some toasted malt, toffee/caramel, light chocolate, some fruity esters, light nuts. Taste is medium sweet malt, caramel, bit toffee, toast and bit of chocolate, bit estery and some nutty flavor, light+ bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, bit oily.

Sample@Ølfestival København 2018 (Day 3) - dark brown pour with a beige head. Toasty and roasted malty medium sweet with some caramel, some fudge, nutty accents throughout, medium body, sweet malty finish.

08-10-18 // taster at an event at Kuehn Kunz Rosen brewery in Mainz. Brownish with a light beige head. Great malty aromas, nuts, caramel, light roasted notes. Light bodied, could be a bit thicker. 55cl bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark brown, reddish, with minimal whitish foam. Aroma is nutty and caramel. Body is not particularly dense, with good carbonation. Taste is fairly sweet and toasted. Minimal bitterness. Finish is regular.

Bottle. Malty aroma, hopy notes, caramel, roasted malts, nutty notes. Tastes the same as aroma, light sweet notes, light to medium bitter. Medium body, malty caramel bitter sweet finish. Good.

One of the all time classic British nut browns. Has all the traditional qualities of the style in spades. Great to finally try it on draft.

Bottle at Princess Louise, Holborn. Sliglty sickly caramel floral aroma. Red tinged chestnut. Thick off-white head. Swet and sour with a bitter edge. Tinned fruit and caramel. Light bodied. Soft mouthfeel abetted by the carbonation. OK, better than a boring bitter.
