Existent represents the philosophy behind Stillwater Artisanal. We strive to define ourselves through our passion and sincerity while accepting that not all aspects of life are readily explainable. To manifest this ideology we present an ale of intrigue. Deep & dark though deceptively dry, braced by a firm yet smooth bitterness and accented with an earthy hop and mild roast aroma. This is an ale for you to define..

Dark brown body with a thinnish, one centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of grass, hay, alcohol, roasted malt, light spices and a bit of caramel and toffee sweetness. Medium-bodied; Assertive yeast flavour of specific belgian style with a light caramel and toffee sweetness followed immediately by a roasty and deep nuttiness with some hazelnut flavour. Aftertaste shows a little spice from nutmeg and a deep grainy hop flavour embedded with some effervescence from the yeast. Overall, a good beer, but not great nor worthy of such a high rating - people are getting caught up in the name. It’s a decent beer and worth a few dollars, but not much more than that. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom [Eye St]) on 14-September-2013 for US$2.50 sampled at home here in Washington on 03-November-2013.

12 ounce bottle. Translucent brown color topped by a medium-sized beige head. Faint toasted malt aroma with yeasty notes. Soft tasty tart toasted malt flavor has notes of yeast, burnt caramel and raisins. Medium bodied with dryish notes and a slightly creamy mouthfeel. This is a very subtle, yet tasty brew. Finishes with bitter spicy notes, again very subtle.

Tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Nice beer overall. Some darkly toasted dough, light yeast. Brown bread, faint leather, cocoa. Decent balance. Moderately sweet finish, more dark and yeasty bread. I like it.

Tap at The Mikkeller Bar Copenhagen. Poured a deep mahogany colour with a thin off-white head. The aroma is smoky and peaty, leading to a smooth bitter, smoky flavour with some nice malty bitterness on the palate.
