Draft tasting glass @ Pudel – Tallinn. Black, small tanned. S: massive liquorice, roast, treacle, raw bark, roots, all liquorice. T: black liquorice, roots, anis, star anis, syrup, molasses, dark grape. Flat molasses & liquorice syrup body, star anis. Well-made but definitely too black liquorice for me.

20/3/2018. Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours an attractive looking opaque black with an average sized beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruits, chocolate and wood, with a hint of stewed veg and liquorice. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Moderate body, watery texture, average carbonation. Finish is a touch sour, slightly burnt and malty. Not overly keen on this, looks were a little deceiving.

330ml bottle @ Albert's Shed. Pours dark brown, small off-white bubbles atop. Grainy dark malts on the nose. Taste is dark malts, light brown bread, toast, faint grainy chocolate with earthy, woody notes. Thin bodied. Unremarkable, but for a dark lager it's drinkable.

Almost as jet black as Japanese hair. Not quite as tasty, though.

333ml bottle, brought back from Japan by a friend, cheers Shirley. Poured into a large Leffe chalice at home on 27th Nov 2017. Red hue to the dark body, swiftly dissipating head. Malty nose, charred malts in fact, not burnt or smoky, just charred: as it warmed a little chocolate and coffee esters came through. Good hop bitterness through the malty sweetness in the taste. Earthy, woody and nutty, liked it, the warming of the beer mad a huge difference to the taste also, with chocolate and coffee flavours arriving, like in the aroma. Pity the head did a runner so swiftly, or this could have been a really high scoring beer.

On tap at CRAFT Sukhumvit, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, a touch of caramel and some molasses. Flavour is soft, with molasses, toasted malt and some bitter cocoa on the finish, with an almost sour tinge. It's decent, but doesn't seem optimal in this state. Not bad.
