Bottle @ Højbjerg tasting. Nice head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are roast malt, caramel, hops and has a nice roasty finish.

Black, light beige froth. Aroma has roasted malt, caramel, dark bread, a little chocolate perhaps. Bready flavour, caramel, light hops.

A new matter to me, a 333 ml (11.25 oz) bottle. I found Shikkoku at a shaky liquor store in Santa Fe, NM. No harm no foul. And no idea how long the bottle was on the shelf, there's a layer of dust covering the bottle that I did not see when purchasing. I open and pour into a Great Heights snifter, black with just a hint of brown at the edge with just a smattering of bubbles to indicate life. The nose is malty with coal lurking around. I take a drink, ah, unfortunate, there is no life in the beer, I should have known better. What I can determine is grain, malt and some astringency. Maybe I will find another someday.

Bottle.Pitch black colour with medium beige head.Aroma of chocolate and malt lively mouth feels and roasted nots aswell mild light watery texture.

Tap at ibrew Ginza. Dark brown, almost black. Aroma is soy sauce, bit of chocolate. Taste is similar but with a bit of cream in there too and a touch of fruitiness and spice. Not bad. I continue to be a sucker for Schwarzbiers.

On tap at Pudel, Tallinn. Dark, dark brown with a beige head. Roasty aroma with notes of chocolate, dark malt and caramel. Tasty, balanced and surprisingly flavourful. Nice one.

Bottle from some bottleshop in Boston: pours black with a beigehead. Aroma is chocolate, maltiness. Taste is bittersweet, malty, some pretzel, kind of chewy. OK.

From the bottle. Very dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of licorice and toasted grain. Taste is mildly bitter with a touch of toffee sweetness. Body is just barely medium, trends thinnish, with water on the palate. Overall, not a lot of complexity. Drinkable though.
