Tap. Deeo amber color with off-white head. Aroma is peppery, aromatic, bready, some caramel. Taste is the same, I like the pepper character here. Oily mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Good!

Tap at Bankan. Dark gold amber colour, small golden head. Aroma is w ipa and a bit of pepper. B.O. hops, spiky malt. Taste is good. Pepper is nice and quite pronounced. Sweet w ipa like too, lots of caramel maltiness. Can't taste the booze but can kind of feel it in the body. Aftertaste is quite sweet and lasts a while.

Tap @ Bankan, looks like this is THE place for this beer. Pours usual darker hazy orange, some foam on top. Nose is full of sansho pepper, herbal blanket over everything else this beer has, maybe just some citrus character coming through. Body is sturdy, as W-IPA usually does, sansho is giving some extra edge, or well, pretty much dominating this beer. I kind of like this intense sansho character, at least the brewer has not been stingy with the stuff. Definitely a beer to try at least once (especially when you pay a visit to Bankan).

On tap at Craft Heads. Hazy dark copper with a really nice soapy off-white head. Big caramel nose with some tropical fruits on the nose. Taste is more of the same. Sweet and sticky on the palate, but as it warms the sansho really comes out and adds a peppery kick on the finish. Very interesting take on the W-IPA. --- Beer merged from original tick of Sansho W-IPA on 21 Jul 2015 at 20:54 - Score: 7

Draught at Kamikaze. Not much of a nose, light san who, caramel. Ok spice and bitterness coming from the sansho, warm malts, very bitter, spicy finish. Decent, though not so special. I don’t think sansho works in caramel-heavy beers.
