The story of New Belgium begins with an abbey: Not only were Belgium’s monastic beers the inspiration behind our Colorado brewery, but Abbey, a Belgian-style dubbel, was one of the first beers we released way back in 1991. Since then, it’s become our most award-winning offering. This garnet brown hued Belgian-style dubbel is strong on character and rich in flavor. Seven malts, including caramel Munich and chocolate, and a definitive Belgian yeast, waft off sweet, spicy aromas. Rich tones of chocolate and dark caramel mix with nuanced dried cherries, burnt sugar and figs. Sweet and roasty upfront, followed by a slightly bitter finish, Abbey is a lovely representation of the monastic beers of Belgium. Sip Abbey, and sip New Belgium’s tradition.

12 oz. bottle. Pours dark copper with a small beige head. Smells of dates, brown sugar, faint citrus, and biscuits dough. The flavor is very sweet, with a very faint bitterness in the middle and a sweet, spicy finish. The palate is light to medium, crisp and effervescent. Overall, a nicely assembled and presented beer. Nothing astounding, just a very good beer.

12 oz bottle into Trappist glass. Pours a brilliant clear reddish copper hue with a medium collapsing head; leaves a skiff and eyeball of foam; leaves some lace. Aroma is totally bananas! Literally, full of esters. Some cheese, too..a hint of cherries? Taste is mostly sweet with a touch of sour. Very Belgian. Alcohol is noticeable. Tasty. Carbonation is medium, body is medium to full. A very nice American interpretation of the classic Belgian style.

12 oz bottle. Clear thin brown, small off white head. Aroma of alcohol and caramel candy. Taste is sweet caramel, bubblegum, slight citrus. Interesting and different.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark and golden deep amber with a small tan head. Aroma is dry yeasty vegetable like, roasted caramel and light spiced. Roasted caramelish flavoured with a distinct phenolic note. Dry and roasted malty into the finish.

12oz bottle. Filtered caramel amber-brown color. Big fluffy head. Sweet malty aroma, with some fruity nuances. Lots of caramel medium malt tones, with some solid yeasty fruitiness as well. Very fresh, clean mouthfeel, a lot more authentic tasting than your typical US version. Quite a solid beer.

Bottle from Cody, thanks! Dark brown color. Slightly roasted aroma with dark chocolate and pear. Roasty flavor with dark chocolate, raisin and hints of cinnamon. Sweetish but pleasant abbey ale, without being world shocking.

Courtesy of vasdef42. Another great New Belgium offering that in my opinion tops the Trippel. Pours dark brown with beige head. Aroma is fruity with notes of dark sugar and possibly some light smoke. Banana becomes more present with temperature. Taste, roasted malts with nice addition of dark candi. Some faint chocolate can be noted in the aftertaste with cooked apples sugar. Notes of sweet banana becomes more prominent as the beer came to room temperature. That was one tasty beer.

Draft @ Toronado, SF. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a small off-white head. Has a malty fruity yeasty spicy aroma. Malty and slighlty spicy yeasty flavor. Has a spicy yeasty finish wit some slightly bitter aftertaste.

12oz Bottle Pours out a brown with some red highs topped with a small head. Aroma of spice, pit fruit and some sweetness. Tast was about the same plenty of spice and sweetness.
