Belgian Style Dubbel
The story of New Belgium begins with an abbey: Not only were Belgium’s monastic beers the inspiration behind our Colorado brewery, but Abbey, a Belgian-style dubbel, was one of the first beers we released way back in 1991. Since then, it’s become our most award-winning offering. This garnet brown hued Belgian-style dubbel is strong on character and rich in flavor. Seven malts, including caramel Munich and chocolate, and a definitive Belgian yeast, waft off sweet, spicy aromas. Rich tones of chocolate and dark caramel mix with nuanced dried cherries, burnt sugar and figs. Sweet and roasty upfront, followed by a slightly bitter finish, Abbey is a lovely representation of the monastic beers of Belgium. Sip Abbey, and sip New Belgium’s tradition.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a medium frothy light tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a sweet malt with raisin and yeast. Decent lacing on the glass. The taste is a sweet fruit, banana and a spicy finish. A good dubbel from New Belgium.

A dark clear brown ale with a thick frothy lacing moka head. A fruity malt with esters of banana and malt, orange peels and cloves. In mouth, an intense sweet ale with solvent like qualities and alcohol warmth. Tasted August 2007.

tap at the brewery - Pours amber with an average head. It has a mild malt aroma with plenty of yeast. The malt flavor has mild caramel along with light hops and some yeastiness. I got a hint of spice as well. Lively on the palate and medium bodied, this dubbel is mild for the style and easy drinking.

Bottle from my friend who returned with this from Colorado. Pours a dark amber color. The beer has a sweet, malty aroma, with a touch of spice.

Aroma is harsh burnt malts with banana and honey with little else. Appearence is a clear light brown with some red and a smallish head. Taste is odd, not anything like an Abbey Dubbel. Tastes like a watery porter but with elements of the aroma, not the biggest fan. Goes down dry and fizzy. Suprised at the 92 percentile.

Dark chestnut color; big creamy head. Delicate aroma of caramel and roasted malt, perfumy, elegant. Medium body strength; the flavor is too much monodimensional for my liking: caramel only. Professionally brewed, with a good choice of yeast.

WBF-Raleigh. Hazy dark amber body with a small tan head. Sweet caramel and spice aroma. Sweet caramel and fruity flavor with some light spice.

Pours dark red with a tan head. Aroma of cloves, bananas, pepper and allspice. Lekker malty flavour with some sweetness. Peppery and hoppy finish. Lovely dubbel.
