When naming this Baltic porter, a collaboration with Tampa’s famed Cigar City Brewing, we opted for Jurata as a nod to a mythological mermaid known to roam the depths of the Baltic Sea, just as energetic yeast used to brew this deep dark beer navigated our fermentation tanks. 22oz bomber pours with a nice dark body that supports a light mocha colored head. The aroma offers up grapes and prune like dark fruity esters as well as earthy chocolate and then a thin sweet molasses sensation at the end of the draw. The taste starts with sweet malts, some chocolate and then blueberry to dark grape like sweet dark fruity esters. It picks up earthy chocolate, chocolate milk mix and then some mild sweet molasses. Pretty nice stuff.

Bottle 66cl @ RBBSG III. Brune foncée, col léger beige. Arôme est malté, pointe de caramel, léger chocolat avec une touche de grillé. Retrouve le bouquet caractéristique d’un léger fruité noir, la touche américaine en plus. Palais malté, léger caramel, pointe houblonné persistante en fin de bouche. Belle balance avec un petit ajout fruité noir venant rajouter une complexité à cette bière.

Pours dark brown color with tan head. Aromas of lightly roasted malts. Roasted malt and semi-sweet chocolate flavors with a hint of yeast. Medium body with moderate carbonation and a slightly dry finish. Nice.

Bottle thanks to GodOfThunder: Poured a dark brown to black sludge with a tan head. Aroma is thick malts roasted. Taste was a nice dark fruit, sweet but roasted malts. Nice strong backbone and not a chocolate bomb like many other porters these days.

750 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBSG III. Thanks to Mathieu87 & PriorL! Black with a thick mocha head. Cacao nose, bit thin, med roast, liquorish. Cacao taste, slightly sour grains, liquorish, coffee, roasted malts, bit thin & weak. Okay, nothing bad but I expected way more from something that has the CCB name attached to it.

Clear dark purple beer, creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: sweet, sugary, caramel, some vanilla, chocolate, bit of chlorine. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: bitter touch, lots of caramel, sweet, chocolatey. Aftertaste: pretty bitter, hoppy, dark chocolate, bit grassy.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, brown sugar, light coffee, herbal, light dark fruits, and roast/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, light coffee, brown sugar, herbal, light dark fruit, and roast/yeast earthiness. Light roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, roast, toast, dark bread, light coffee, brown sugar, herbal, light dark fruit, and roast/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and earthy yeast ester flavors; with solid robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice and pleasant Baltic porter. Good complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and earthy yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on. Not as bold or robust as I was hoping for, but is a nicely enjoyable offering.

Drought at Spuyten Duyvil. Dark brown with reddish tint, small foamy tan head, slight coffee-mocha aroma, low carbonation, bitterish mocha taste, abrupt finish with bitter aftertaste. Interesting but different from other Baltic Porters, not so much caramel influence.
