Orkney is around 59 degrees north, level with some parts of Russia where imperial stouts were originally sent. Our version is dark with chocolate and fruit in the nose and prunes and oranges on the palate. It has an almost Belgian aftertaste.

Bottle in Oldmeldrum. It pours jet black with a medium light tan head. The aroma is rich and sweet, loads of dark fruit, plum, prune, blackcurrant, milk chocolate and Eccles cake. The taste is slick, rich roasted malt, heavy sweet upfront, milk chocolate, coffee grounds, oily, plum jam, prune and warming alcohol with a roasty - sweet finish. Medium - full body and moderate carbonation. Perhaps a touch too sweet and lacking in a bit of depth. Not bad overall.

Creamy beige head stayed well on a near black still body. Dark coffee & plum aroma. Thick & creamy on the palate, minimal carbonation, slides down the throat.... Dark fruits, plum, brown sugar, sweet black coffee, malty & hints of vanilla. Such an easy drinking beer. The alcohol is completely hidden - so dangerous - but fun!!

bottle, kindly donated by MoritzF! Deep black with a mid-szed beige head. Full-bodied, intensively malty with a pleasant but not heavy sweetness. Chocolatey with some shy dried fruits. Delicious and very moreish, despite the strength.

Bottle: Literally black, presumably clear, smaller but stable and creamy tanned head; rich nose of vanilla, toasted malt, dried fruits and chocolate, combined with a tinge of soy-sauce; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, medium to full bodied, pretty soft; lingering bitter-sweet finish with flavours of vanilla, chocolate and toasted malt, pretty distinctive dry malty-roasty bitterness in the aftertaste. A very well crafted Imp.Stout. ...

(bottle, 33cl) Black colour with a brown and firm tall foamy head. Dark malty, moderately roasted aroma with a syrupy, slightly vinous sweetness, including dark and dried fruity notes upfront, mildly hints of chocolate, leather and vanilla in the second row. Moderately sweet and cautious bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Mildly syrupy dark malty start, barely roasted with marked fruity flavours of dark and dried, even candied fruits, accompanied by a touch of chocolate; lasting sweet dark malty and slightly roast-bitter finish with a long fruity tail and a mildly warming alcoholic strength, even a whiff of herbal-spicy hops kicks in at the very end. Definitely not your usual Imp. Stout. Recommended! 27.VII.16

Bottle from Cornelius. Black body with a medium beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of brambles, earth and fig. Flavour of creamy chocolate, orange and berries. Thin to medium body with a smooth texture. Light fizz. Drinks as if it was half the ABV. Classy beer. Would love to try this on cask.
Cask at The Hanging Bat. Black body with a medium beige head that holds well. Faint lacing. Aroma of blueberries and wood. Flavour of earth and charred wood. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft carbonation has prickle. This is the most easy drinking 8% Imperial Stout Iβve tried.
