Orkney is around 59 degrees north, level with some parts of Russia where imperial stouts were originally sent. Our version is dark with chocolate and fruit in the nose and prunes and oranges on the palate. It has an almost Belgian aftertaste.

Bottle from Cornelius. Black body with a medium beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of brambles, earth and fig. Flavour of creamy chocolate, orange and berries. Thin to medium body with a smooth texture. Light fizz. Drinks as if it was half the ABV. Classy beer. Would love to try this on cask.
Cask at The Hanging Bat. Black body with a medium beige head that holds well. Faint lacing. Aroma of blueberries and wood. Flavour of earth and charred wood. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft carbonation has prickle. This is the most easy drinking 8% Imperial Stout I’ve tried.

Cask. Friends of Ham, Leeds. Clear, cola brown. Bubbly, tan head. Raisins. Chocolate. Taste is fruity sweet, and nutty dry. No bitterness to it. Palate is smooth and creamy. Some boozy warmth. Boozy sweet finish. Very easy drinking.

On tap at the Bow Bar winter beer festival. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely creamy head. Nose - dark chocolate and dried fruit. Taste - intense prunes and chocolate. Some oranges in there too. Palate - medium to full bodied with a creamy texture and a finish that has a relatively fresh finish when you consider the big body and the alcohol is practically invisible. Overall - stunning beer that grows with every sip.

cask at tap Sept 2012 ... deep black ... thin tan head ... soft dark roast ... light chocolate nose ... big mellow meaty roast malts ... rich dark fruits ... soft coffee ... huge meaty finish ... lovely soft silky body but maybe little too soft on carbonation ... lovely 4.2 Cask at the malt and hops Jan 2014 (same batch as above)... Deep black... Small Bubbly tan head... Soft mellow chocolate... Mellow soft whisky ... Rich meaty chocolate malts... Deep soft roast ... Nicely balanced whisky... Light rounded body... Light but perfectly adequate carbonation... Drinks a little too easily if anything... 4.3 oh yeah baby .. Well blow me, not BA in any way, i can still tasting this lingering on my lips and id still swear it was Whisky Barrel but Brewer says not, Just the same batch as Sept 2012 rating left in a FirkinAnd twice more from sane barrel i think thus just gets better and better. 4.5 Cask
