The Commodore came out of our search for a medium-bodied American Stout. The recipe began at our R&D pilot brewery, but quickly became a favorite of our crew. Strong flavors of roast coffee and bittersweet chocolate balance with light citrusy hop aromas, highlighted by a crisp, bitter finish. One sip of this gold medal-winning stout will have you ready to take command of your own fleet.

Tap into a small shaker showing pitch black with slightly tanned white foam and coffee brown rims. The nose shows a lot of heavily roasted coffee and malts. The palate is well carbonated, light bodied and foamy. The palate shows a hoppy tartness with steel tank notes and a mild coffee bitterness.

Pours pitch black with a smooth brown head. Aroma of roasty malts, licorice, hints of berries and cocoa. Taste is smooth, slightly roasty and grainy with hints of coffee and cocoa. Finish is smooth, sweetish and slightly roasty with hints of cocoa. Okay.

Draught (6,5%)@ the brewpub, Miramar. Aroma has nice coffee tones and some licorice. Flavour has ash, licorice, some coffee and mild saltiness. Too dry but not bad anyway.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a mahogany colored body that supports a wafer thin mocha head. The aroma is full and rich and inviting with dark roasted malts, a bit of a coffee note and then a sweetness that is slightly nutty. Yum, the aroma notes fit together so nicely. The taste is similar dark roasted malts, slightly burnt malts, dark roasted coffee and then all of these notes are lightened up by malt sweetness and a touch of molasses. To midway it starts to feel like a nice chocolate brownie sensation. Solid rich balanced and varied stout here. Wow, I love this.
