The Commodore came out of our search for a medium-bodied American Stout. The recipe began at our R&D pilot brewery, but quickly became a favorite of our crew. Strong flavors of roast coffee and bittersweet chocolate balance with light citrusy hop aromas, highlighted by a crisp, bitter finish. One sip of this gold medal-winning stout will have you ready to take command of your own fleet.

Bottle - Pours dark brown tan head - nose/taste of molasses, roast chocolate, resin, black licorice - medium body - drinks like a Black IPA.

Really good stout. Pours a dark brown-black with minimal head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Flavor is very smooth, with hints of coffee, chocolate, licorice, some leather, and a light sweetness. Goes down very easy.

Draft. Jet black color, brown head. Aroma of coffee grounds and bitter chocolate. Taste has espresso and cacao. Very tasty.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color stout with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of dry bitter coffee with nice black chocolate notes. Taste is a mix of dry bitter coffee notes with some smooth aromatic black chocolate notes with alight spicy finish. Body is quite full with some creamy texture and good carbonation. Quite enjoyable example of the style. Wish I would have access to this more often.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown/black with a ark tan head. Aroma is smooth burnt malt and some chocolate. Full bodied or nearly. Flavor is dark burnt malt - earthy- chocolate note - not coffee, but sort of seems like it. Finishes towards dry, and it’s earthy bitter. Nice.

On tap at Elizabeth Station, pours black with a small tan head. Nose brings out toasted malt and a touch of oats and coffee. Flavour is weird, with some vegetal and earthy notes, along with some toasted malt. Strangely vegetal - making it a bit off. Okay.

This was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance was a black color with a one finger white to off foamy head that dissipated within less than a slim minute. Adequate stringy speckled clingy lacing glazes around the glass.
The smell has a huge roasty coffee bean wrapping a delicate sweet cocoa bean underneath.
The taste takes the roasty with the sweet and brings in a subtle substantial amount of dried sticky cocoa malt. The aftertaste runs the gamut on the roasty effects and fires into a dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionable feel about it. Carbonation runs light. Roasty character really hits my tongue.
Overall, I’d say this was a really nice American Stout. I’d have again.
