The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

75 cl? bottle 2010-07-15, Göteborg - Picked up in Randers, Denamark AR: deep milk chocolate truffle AP: pitch black, dark beige fizzy/creamy 3 cm head F: chocolate truffle, warming feeling like shipping hot chocolate with wipped cream on top in the ski hill, short but present and plesent bitterness! Opened it a shared it with the wife to celebrate this years summer holiday - 5 weeks of freedom...

Chocolate syrup aroma, with light coffee notes underneath. Clear brown, medium yellow head. Much more balanced flavor of chocolate and coffee, with an equal bit of dark roasted barley malt. Espresso finish. Rich, but more drinkable than Crème Brulee. Makes a fantastic beer float, hand to God.

22 oz. bottle, pours deep black with a small tan head. Aroma of very rich chocolate and mocha. Bold, very sweet chocolate and coffee flavour, with the 11% not noticeable at all. Another cloyingly sweet,diabetes bomb. Not so good, but not entirely undrinkable or offensive.

Bottle at home ... black ... thin tan head ... soft sweeet coffee big fruit nose ... bitter front ... over fizzzy .... coffee roast ... little toffee ... deep roast ... some dark berries ... little bitter ... nice but having just had the Black Albert coffee club last weekend this isnt quite hitting the same spot... This has some odd tones ... and a hint of the creme brulle ... and really gets wearing 3.7 initial rating -> 3.4

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are dominated byt rich chocolate. But there is also distinct notes of coffee and milk. Nice and sweet.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu) Poured almos black with small and light brown head. Aroma was like coffee and chocolate blended together. Palate was full bodied and bit oily with medium carbonation. Flavours were coffee, chocolate, roastedness, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste contained chocolate, sweetness and bitterness.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 16 Jan 2010) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with lots of chocolate, moccha and cocoa. Hints of coffee. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, moccha and coffee. Some alcohol sweetness comes through in a finish with a generous cocoa bitterness. Full body, rather sweet. The chocolate character gets really dominant, but I still like this beer a lot. Excellent stuff.

Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm. I hear the girls across the table scream "I don’t normally like beer, this tastes like chocolate!" Comes near black with bubbly head, producing a huge chocolate sauce aroam. Sweet and powerful, like concetrated chocolate sauce in every aspect. Sticky, candyish and super simple. Some coffee, but with more sugar in it than I can imgine can dissolve in coffee. Just ridiculous and more or less undrinkable. This is beer for people that doesn’t like beer.

22 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a deep amber glare with a small tan head. Solid vanilla and chocolate to coffee aroma. Sweet malty, coffee and chocolate sweet. Lingering vanilla note. Lingering sweet chocolate and coffee into the far finish.
