Draft at Keyaki Spring 2015 under the name iburi ale. I’m going to assume this is the same smoked ale with a new fancy name. Dark golden brown color with almost no head. Light smoked aroma with some toasted grain on the nose. Bacon and bacon fat on the palate. Slightly thin and oily at the same time. Not bad, but kind of interesting and different. --- Beer merged from original tick of Smoked Ale on 03 Feb 2016 at 14:50

Bottle - Smokey bacon with some grains. Clear gold with no head. Very bacony, with no richness and odd as a pale beer. Singular flavour is nice but a bit boring and hard to drink much of.

Deep chestnut color. Smoked bacon, wood, but not over powering nose. Big maltiness hits you at first. Then touches of smoke, but hardly overpowering. Nicely balanced. Dry finish that needed more lingering smokiness for me to savor. Still not bad.

Bottle from Yamaoka in Kyoto. 2008 version. Dark brown with red and orange traces, thin head. Smoky, bacon-like aroma with not a lot else going on. Nice, medium smokiness, not all that rich in malt. Flavor is richer in malt, with decent caramel, nuts, a bit of chocolate, some fruit, and good smoked character. A bit of ale-like fruit is in there as well, well balanced, with a bit of hops working as well. Nicely balanced, good palate. Well done overall.
