AleSmith Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. Our brewers had such a great time creating it that they decided to brew a new style each year to commemorate our anniversary.

Now, nineteen years after we started, we’re proud to present another great addition this ongoing series, AleSmith Decadence 2014 is our interpretation of a Wheat Wine Style Ale. The generous amounts of wheat used in the his beer impart a bready aroma with hints of honey, ripe fruit, and a spicy graininess. In the finish, a pleasant malty sweetness from the wheat is balanced by the addition of German and American hops. Enjoy this special brew now or age it at a cool temperature for a truly rewarding experience.

Bottle poured, as #4 of 6 in the wheat wine tasting. Blind tasting a style that I rarely enjoy, so the results are interesting. Pours a cloudy golden orange color, watery malty aroma. Super wheat and malt bomb aroma. Maybe rye too. Nice blend of grain aroma and flavor. Smooths out in the finish. Generous spice. Pretty good.

Bottle @ Abijen’s Christmas non-tick tasting. Aroma of raisin, licorice and toffee. Sweet taste of fresh wheat, toffee, sweet raisin and buttery caramel. Not bad, but a bit simple.

Bottle @ Abijen’s Christmas non-tick tasting, small sample. Slight hazy golden to orange color, short head. Aroma of wheat, slight spicy yeast, soft tangerine and orange, some caramel. Bit sweet in taste, bit fruity. Well balanced, but not really outspoken in any characteristic. Nice.

Pours mahogany into a snifter. Off-white head with good retention recedes leaving soapy lacing. Dark caramel aromas. Thick with dark hot caramel, citrus, dark pit fruit, and pepper upfront turning to lasting a hot bitter earth finish. Complex.

Bottle shared at Leighton’s place. 25/08/2015. Many thanks to Paul. Hazed readdy orange coloured pour with a lasting thin white head. Aroma is subdued belgian yeast character, orange peel, caramel, sweet toffee, and honey. Flavour is composed of honey and toffee, light earthy notes, little booze in the back but pretty smooth. Doughnut. Palate is sweet and full, sticky and highish carbonation. Lingering wood and light belgian yeast. Good stuff.

A beautiful beer, glowing orange colour, a head is quite small and blond. Aroma is just incredible, fruitness, fruitcake, marshmellow, caramel, sweet perries, flowers, honey and aromatic perfume. Taste has richness or maltyness but not too sweet or heavy, riped fruits, fruitcake, great bitterness in the end that’s dries the end to balanced. Medium+ bodied, easy to drink. Marvellous beer, great aromatic notes and balance.
