AleSmith Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. Our brewers had such a great time creating it that they decided to brew a new style each year to commemorate our anniversary.

Now, nineteen years after we started, we’re proud to present another great addition this ongoing series, AleSmith Decadence 2014 is our interpretation of a Wheat Wine Style Ale. The generous amounts of wheat used in the his beer impart a bready aroma with hints of honey, ripe fruit, and a spicy graininess. In the finish, a pleasant malty sweetness from the wheat is balanced by the addition of German and American hops. Enjoy this special brew now or age it at a cool temperature for a truly rewarding experience.

Bottle shared at Leighton’s. It pours clear rich amber with a decent off-white head. The nose is rich, bitter-sweet, honey nut, crunchy nut cornflakes, sweet bread and iced bun. The taste is slick, rich bready maltage, cereal, crunchy nut cornflakes, honeycomb, iced bun, toasty, light spice, hay, marmalade, nougat, alcohol warmth and candied orange peel with a smooth, warming finish. Medium - full body, moderate carbonation and airy mouth-feel. Good balance and high chuggability for the style.

Draught @ Alesmith, Miramar. Aroma has sweet, ripe fruits and apricot. Flavour has alcohol, some ripe fruits, menthol and apricot. Fruity, but too boozy. Reminds me of some Bush beers.

Draft pour at the brewery. Poured a small caramel color with a small, almost wispy off-white head. Aroma was lots of toffee, caramel notes. Like a caramel candy. Plenty of light fruits, sweet, caramel malt notes. Nicely aged.

750 ml bottle courtesy of Desverger. Pours murky red/orange with a creamy offwhite head that leaves some spotty trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty, fruity and grassy with sweet dark bread, caramel, biscuits, toffee, grapefruit juice, mango, peaches, papaya, moist grass, pine needles, resinous wood, alcohol and lemon zest. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty, fruity and grassy. Mouthfeel is round, sticky, oily, slightly boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with caramel, biscuits, toffee, grapefruit juice, mango, moist grass, pine needles, resinous wood, minerals, alcohol and lemon zest. Tasty hoppy US barley (wheat) wine. A treat!

Bottle, 75cl. It pours an unclear orange-golden body under a small, off-white head. Curtains. Quite frutiy, sugary aroma with malts, mint hints, pine cones and a citrusy touch. Some alcohol and white sugar. It’s full-bodied, lightly warming and with a nice carbonation. The flavor has a nice sweetness, a fine bitterness too, pine cones, some resins and white sugar. Lasting finish. Really nice this one, but a bit sweetish and sugary. 150718

Taster at the brewery. Orange color with small white head. Light booze, ripe fruits, candy, honey, good body, feels vineous. Amazing mouthfeel. So light and so easy-going for a Barleywine! The best description for this beer is probably a blonde Weizen Barleywine.
