So let’s get the stories flowing and share a little ’Folklore’. A bracingly deep ale, built dark and rich with an elegantly lean body, accompanied by heady aromas of Belgian yeast, earthy hops and gently kissed by a wisp of smoke.

tuesday night bottle. pours dark hazy brown with nice beige head and good lacing. nose is dark fruit, coffe, and chalk. Tastes quite good with cola, dark chocolate, prunes, earth, grass, and vanilla. drying on finish and lingering goodness

4oz pour at Churchkey is an oily, opaque black with some cloudy white head. Nose is chalky chocolate, cherries, malty, toasted bread. Flavor is sweet, malty, chocolate, coffee, pencil lead. Medium bodied, dry finish.******** Re-rate, sampled at the DC Local Tasting a 750ml bottle pours a watery, opaque black with some creamy off white head. Nose is standard, lavender, vanilla, malty, nutty. Flavor is sweet, malty, vanilla, herbs, molasses. Medium bodied, dry finish. Might be my favorite Stillwater beer.

Bottle at The Funky 7, Brooklyn. Really cool to try this. Pours dark, cloudy brown with a large, tan head. Aroma holds some dark, roasted malts, cocoa, and hints of dark fruits. Light to medium sweet flavor, plenty of baking cocoa, roast, subtle vanilla. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Lightly warming finish, more chocolate, nice dry bitterness, decent roastiness. Very solid beer. Thank you. (August 2011, score: 4.1)
Draft at CBC 2012 - Copenhagen. Pours dark brown with a creamy beige cap. Toasted dark bread in the nose, some Belgian candi sugar, light roast, dusty cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with moderate roast continuing, Belgian yeast, candi sugar, light milk chocolate. Medium bodied with average carbonation and creamy texture. Balanced finish, with dark sugars, dark bread, light yeast, more milk chocolate. Very good stuff. (May 2012, score: 3.9)

Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate and licorice aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and licorice flavor with hints of caramel. Ha sa roasted malty chocoalte and licorice finish.

Bottle courtesy of beerandblues2 at the 14th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 3/19/11. Pours a clear dark brown color with a thin tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of dry roasted malts, chocolate, nutty notes and a bit of banana. The taste is chocolate, roasted malts, tart cherries and some banana. Medium-full bodied. very nice beer.

Had this at teh RB Pgh Tasting @ lithy’s, 5/21/11. Big thanks to MrChopin forthis one! Big black pour from a bottle, musty old wet burned wood aromas. Large bold taste of old wet charred wood that was soaking in pond water. Not as over top as I was expecting. There is alky in there but you would not know it was close to 9%. Its not in your face like so many foreign stouts. Much better than lion stout. Finish is OK but it does border on imp stout territory. retreat to act like a dry stout of sorts on the finish. Thanks Kevin for a chance to try this beer!
