Who wants the funk? Our New England friends at Allagash brought it, taking Fat Tire back to its Belgian roots with a De Dolle House Belgian yeast strain that adds classic pear, banana, and spice to Fat Tire's malty goodness. They then bottle-conditioned the beer with Brettanomyces Allagagensis for an extra spicy finish. Get your funk on.

Nice hazy copper and bronze coloured body with a two centimetre tall tan head and a nice rich glow at the bottom. Aroma of funk (just like the name implies), grass, yeast, coriander seed, brett and way more yeast - nice and fragrant throughout. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy, herbal and especially funky yeast flavours throughout with brett, lactic sugars and some hay very noticeable. Aftertaste shows some rich notes coupled with a lot of the funk from the brett and a lot of unfinished yeast elements, but leaves funky, complex and rich. Overall, an interesting beer that shows a lot more flavour, complexity and especially substance compared to a typical fat tire - Allagash did some magic here and it’s a nice beer to sample and well worth finding if you can get it! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Fair Lakes (Fairfax), Virginia for US$15,99/twelve pack on 16-July-2016 sampled at home in Washington on 26-July-2016.

12oz bottle. A funky, bright, funky amber Belgian Ale. It does have some brett notes of course but I’d say it isn’t a straightforward Sour ale for sure. Pleasant mouthfeel, a little thin compared to most Belgian Ales, but plleasantly medium bodied despite the deep flavors. Really expertly crafted, a nice use of yeast.

On Tap at Bier:Thirty hazy orange witha full sticket light tan head. Mild fruity soft brett funk aroma. Some barnyard dusty musty flavors, but muted and soft. The easily recognizable;e fat tire biscuitiness is beat down, and this is a light funky crisp ale.
