Who wants the funk? Our New England friends at Allagash brought it, taking Fat Tire back to its Belgian roots with a De Dolle House Belgian yeast strain that adds classic pear, banana, and spice to Fat Tire's malty goodness. They then bottle-conditioned the beer with Brettanomyces Allagagensis for an extra spicy finish. Get your funk on.

Sample during the "Collaboration Beers on Deck!" tasting on 07/08/2016. This beer is a clear orange-amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates gradually to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of funky fruit, yeast and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of funky yeast, spice, fruit and malt. The finish is mildly funky with a spiced fruit and yeast aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft at Draught 55. Amber pour with s frothy head and plenty of lace. Aroma is apple/peat type fruit, candied sugar, Belgian yeast, banana, and spice. Sweet up front with a funky, kinda dry finish. Taste is much different than what I expected from the aroma. Finishes clean and quick. Lively carbonation. Interesting, but not amazing.

Pours a hazy golden-orange, with smallish head. Aroma is marked by fruit esters. Some banana and sour odors. Flavor has a lot of sour fruit, banana, and Brett mustiness. Pretty good on the whole.

Bottle from a mix pack at Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours light golden amber with a small white head. Nice banana/pineapple aroma. Near med body with somewhat spritely carbonation. Flavor is banana, arguably pear/pineapple, with some funk and an earthy finish. For me the best of the experimental series. Finally some serious flavor. Finishes like the flavor but with a little Belgian yeast/spice for minor tang.

12 oz bottle from the variety pack. Thanks for picking this up, brenn79. Aroma is doughy, banana, chalky candy, floral soap, clove. First decently hazy brew of the entire pack with a decidedly unfiltered appearance showcasing a burnt orange hue and an off-white head that lasts a minute before falling into a ring and a little lace. Taste starts out sweet with lots of Belgian yeast character before turning dry and lightly bitter. Good stuff. Some final thoughts: the Avery collaboration should have been named the Funk one, as it was a lot more funky. With the Avery bottle, I thought the aroma was more interesting than the taste. Itβs vice versa with this one, with the taste being better than the aroma. Anyway, looks like I saved the best two for last.

12 ounce bottle. Amber orange color. Frothy beige head. Nice lacing. Slightly funky nose, redolent of banana and bubblegum. Subtle barnyard notes lead to fruity malt dalliances. Some brininess in middle. Earth and spice in finish with a touch of Plastic Mac.

Bottle from the mix pack. It pours a rich orange color with an off white head. The aroma is full with Belgian yeast. Nice spice, pepper, bubble gum and hints of banana. Light background notes of basement funk. The flavor has toasted malt up front with some spice, pear, grape gum, and soft hay-like funk near the finish. Fairly light and frothy on the palate, but the substantial maltiness and full yeast character give it some body. Overall, this was one of my favorites in this series along side the Firestone dry-hopped version.
