A Russian Imperial Stout with a hearty malt body and bold hop flavor.

Named after the infamous "Blackout of 2003" that left the northeastern United States in complete darkness, but resulted in old-fashioned neighborhood porch parties and fun.

(tap) clear very dark brown colour with a small brown head; aroma of roast, chocolate, then stewed fruit; balanced flavour with a long, light sweet finish, followed by an even longer light bitter afterfinish

A: Even chilled it pours like used motor oil. Same color also. Surpringly a bit of head and sparkle. S:Dark fruits, raisin, fig, no hop or hot alcohol. T: 9% ABV prune juice with some fizz. Tastes good for what I’m getting but a bit cloying. M: Pretty heavy and coating. Oily. O: This is pretty good but I sure don’t want any more of these mofos. Worthy experience, this was a 1st try.

Boiled cabbage and charcoal nose. Black, thin tan head. Sweet and vegetal. Rather cloying cane sugar with boiled cabbage. The off flavors subside leaving a drier but still sweet licorice note at midpalate and a welcome charred oak finish. Medium body. Significantly tainted. Such a pity.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 10/28/2012. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, caramel, brown sugar, raisin, plum, light licorice, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, light-moderate dark fruit, and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, caramel, brown sugar, raisin, plum, light licorice, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, caramel, brown sugar, raisin, plum, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, light-moderate dark fruit, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly bready/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Russian imperial stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, light-moderate dark fruit, and light earthy hops flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Milk chocolate and caramelized roast. Pours black without a ton of head or lacing. Bittersweet finish. Has a nice roast musk that grows on you after a few sips. Tap at Black Squirrel.

On tap in Rochester at the brewfest. Old rating notes. Thick, rich and creamy with huge malt flavors, coffee, chocolate. Relatively sweet but balanced well by burntness and alcohol. Very nice.

35,5 cl bottle @ olio, BBE 18.03.2013
Aroma has strong cocoa notes. Also vanilla and hayish tones. Flavour has salty licorice, soy sauce, cocoa tones and tobacco. Also some bready malt tones occur at the end of the glass. Alcohol is present but does not disturb.
