"Clean this mess up or else we'll all end up in jail...those test tubes and the scale...just get 'em all outta here..." He was referring to the complex super-critical-CO2 hop extraction equipment set up on the table in the lab across from the brewhouse. Hop extracts are for the BIG brewers, he thought - suitable only for crummy sub-standard and barely-passable industrial lagers, not the subtle and elegant craft beer made here. But wrong he was. The New Brewer does not eschew any possible inputs. In this case the mountain of extracts will replace the mountain of hop vegetative material in the kettle thus creating cleaner hop flavors and preventing the otherwise spinach-like mess of a kettle full of super-hopped wort from clogging up a pump or worse. The sensuous honey-like amber ooze was administered intravenously to the wort kettle and the sacrament was complete. Another kettle of Hop Stoopid is once again raised up and fermented on high

Pours clear orange-amber, not too carbonated nor foamy. Nose is full on hoppy, nicely balanced against that caramel sweet - but grassy hopped and resiny - body. Taste reveals more of that heavier and hoppier character, something that drinks dangerously easy although some alcohol is there and it even warms you a bit. Beer that appeals to me as a session beer - although by all accounts, it should not be that. Loving this.

Pours very clear blonde, small white head. Smell is rich; creamy, tad sweet-perception by the fruityness. Taste is full, pine, bitter, aromatically hopped.. pine in the afrtertaste. Nice

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Greg & Jane’s Beer and Wine. Appearance is hazy golden orange with prevalent noticeable floaties, fair sparkle, finger-width foamy white head with poor retention and nice sudsy lacing. Aroma is strong tropical fruit, orange, grapefruit, light candied sugar. Taste is initial strong sweet orange, tropical fruit with growing bitter resin presence mixed in for back half over malt backbone. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thick texture, soft carbonation and mix of bitter and sweet finish. Overall, bountiful flavor and not the typical Lagunitas bitter profile. A nice departure and surprisingly light for the ABV.

Bottle from West Side. Pours a clear, deep gold with a small head that dissipates. Big green pineapple, diesel fuel and peach aromas. Clean and crisp, light-bodied, abv hidden well. Some citrus as it warms up, more diesel notes. Clean finish, with lingering fruity hops and prickly bitterness. Tap. Slightly hazy orange color with small white head. Aroma is piney, earthy, toasted malts. Taste is grapefruit, piney hops, toasted malts, clean and dry finish. Medium carbonation. Classic West Coast DIPA, well-made.

Another Lagunitas delivery. Poured from a bomber into my new New Belgium tulip glass. Nice presentation, a golden yellow perhaps veering to a light orange. Good nose but that is not why one returns to this beer. Thin head but I do not complain. Initial taste is really grand. Hoppy for sure but with an immediate tone of pineapple. Surprising. Slight hint of alcohol but there are plenty of IPAs with more than 8%. Call it it welcoming. I call it fine. Served really cold is really good. Oh yeah.

Bomber, Wine Warehouse. Clear medium golden with a large off-white to beige head. Aroma of lemon, grapefruit, orange. Taste: Citrus (indiscernible), pine, bubblegum, floral hops. Juicy, almost a little too sweet in the back end for me.

On tap at Lagunitas tap room, Pataluma (CA, USA). Clear orange skin pour, tick ivory foam. Nose: malt, resin a bit. Mouth: malt amber feel, syrup, bitter finish cleaning the palate. Solid. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
