"Clean this mess up or else we'll all end up in jail...those test tubes and the scale...just get 'em all outta here..." He was referring to the complex super-critical-CO2 hop extraction equipment set up on the table in the lab across from the brewhouse. Hop extracts are for the BIG brewers, he thought - suitable only for crummy sub-standard and barely-passable industrial lagers, not the subtle and elegant craft beer made here. But wrong he was. The New Brewer does not eschew any possible inputs. In this case the mountain of extracts will replace the mountain of hop vegetative material in the kettle thus creating cleaner hop flavors and preventing the otherwise spinach-like mess of a kettle full of super-hopped wort from clogging up a pump or worse. The sensuous honey-like amber ooze was administered intravenously to the wort kettle and the sacrament was complete. Another kettle of Hop Stoopid is once again raised up and fermented on high

On tap at Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn NY on 22nd July 2011. Orange-amber with quick-dissipating head. Rich intense grapefruit hop aroma. Liquid is intensely grapefruity and very dry in mouthfeel. Aftertaste is hoppy - citric grapefruit in abundance.

My 700th rating and I saved a top notch Double IPA for the occasion. Bottle bought at GBBF 2011 this week. A dark orange/amber coloured pour with a small white lasting head on top. Hoppy, citrus fruit, tropical fruit aroma. Tastes really complex, clearly a well made DIPA, hoppy, pine, citrus fruit, tropical fruit, slight bitterness, malty, not much sweetness in here at all. Surprisingly easy to drink. This is a class act, my favourite beer style without a doubt. I really need to emigrate to California. Love this one.

Golden/light amber, cloudy liquid with medium white head. Aroma is hoppy with notes of pine, tropical fruits, citrus, grass, caramel. Taste is heavily bitter with nice dryness. Light to medium bodied, a bit watery, with ok carbonation. Overall, really nice DIPA. Recommended.

Bottled 650ml (bought from Portland)
Name is probably nowadays "Lagunitas Hop Stoopid". Dark orange-copper color, small steady white head. Strong aroma of mango, pineapple and resin. Full-bodied. Sweetish fruityness, grapefruit, lots of resiny bitterness and pine. This is not the most easiest DIPA to drink ... very robust flavors, very malty. Long warming and piney aftertaste.

Pours a deep clear golden copper color with a bubbly white head that shows remarkable resilience as I try to swallow it off the top. Smells of hops. No kidding really it does. Pine, resin, citrus, apricots, grapefruit its all there. I can’t find any malt in the aroma, but that’s not really the point here is it. The aroma on this one is all about the hops. Surprisingly smooth drinking. hints of caramel up front that are assaulted almost immediately with citrus resin and pine. Smoothly bitter but the hops assert themselves midway through and into a long lingering resin and grapefruity finish. Medium body with an almost sweet but very resinous mouthfeel. Medium light level of carbonation. I quite enjoyed this one! Quite reasonably priced at just under six dollars too. Thank you for coming to NH Lagunitas, I might just have to find a place for this one in the rotation.

Pours translucent amber, the head bright white and frothy and clingy. Smell reminds you of the weird fruit aisle at the hippie grocery store. Eases any IBU-related trepidation with a flood of soothing malts and tasty, citrus-n-hay hops. There’s a lingering sharpness of hop-oil and alcohol, but it proves bearable amidst the classic onslaught of sweet and citric Lagunitas hops. Feels a little warm, but the slick texture tempers this heat. And the bottle declares this an "unlimited release," so maybe Hop Stoopid will be easy to find from now on. (5/18/09)

Dunkler Hopfenantrunk, aromatisch, frisch.

Bottle, 22oz. An almost clear one, golden in color and with a small, off-white head on top. The aroma is really nice, peaches, green pine cones, some citrus peel and a touch of the alcohol. The flavor is a bit too sweet to qualify for the same score, but at least there’s enough hops in it to prevent it from being uninteresting. Green pine cones, pinapple, citrus peel and a good dash of bitterness. Lasting bitterness in the end. Full-bodied, warming mouthfeel. Although a bit sweet and harshly bitter, it’s a really nice one that I certainly won’t shy away from repeating if possible. 101210
