Bottle to glass. Massive pine and citrus hops. Slight cracker balances nicely. Clear dark copper with an off-white head. Taste of citrus hops pronounced with the alcohol showing just as strongly. The alcohol is not hidden, notwithstanding that the current batch has backed off the ABV. Finishes sugary sweet with a solid, bitter, quick ending.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the new Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks zvikar. Deep golden. Aroma of piney hops, slightly stale, with caramelly malt, a bit of fruity notes and alcohol. Flavor has sweet malt, a bit caramelly, some fruit jam and a bitter finish with some decent hoppiness. Medium-bodied. Quite nice.

On draft at the Mad Fox Barley Wine Festival, Falls Church VA. Pours a clear amber with a creamy off white head. Mild aroma for a barley wine. Grassy hop taste with some hints of caramel. Bitter finish.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a cloudy burnt amber with a half finger.of off white head. Aroma of caramel with citrus and pine. Taste is medium bitter. Pine and citrus with a solid toffee backbone. . Overall, pretty good. Weak for a barleywine but would make a solid dipa.

0.33l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This is a mildly cloudy light bronze one with a small sidesticking top. It definitely smells like a barley, it's on the sweet side of the scale, bready, dried fruits, caramel, a little bit of alcohol, and I also get a hint of red wine and lingonberries. Smells quite nice. The taste also a bit on the sweet side. Dry red berries, sweet toffee caramel, hint of licorice, some warming alcohol all wrapped in a light sticky texture. 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/9/2012. Pours slightly hazy reddish orange color with a very nice 2 finger dense cream colored head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big pine, caramel, grapefruit, orange rind, apple, brown sugar, bread, toast, floral, grass, and herbal earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, pine, apple, brown sugar, toast, bread, citrus rind, floral, grass, and herbal earthiness. Fair amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, pine, light fruits, brown sugar, bread, toast, floral, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Great balance and complexity of flavors; with a great hop bitterness/malt balance; and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly creamy, slick, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with hardly any warming noticed at all after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent "experimental" Barley wine! Great flavor balance and complexity; and dangerously easy to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering as expected.

Bottle pour to tulip (times 4 bottles). I wouldn’t recognize it as a barley wine, but the sweet hoppiness definitely says "Lagunitas." A very nice combination of hops, malt and sweetness. This will be on my Christmas list every year.
