O Gude Ale Comes, and Gude Ale goes... This Scotch Ale is sweet, but not cloying. It's strong, but not brash. It's smooth and smokey, like a good dram among friends. Cheers!

On tap at RateBeer Best. Pours a clear copper with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is dark fruit, toasted malt, pine. Medium body, similar flavors to nose, very boozy, nice smoke finish, very good.

Sample at Daily Growler Powell during the Rhinegeist Boomerang Bus Tour+Party on 05/18/2017. Brownish-amber color with a medium thick frothy light beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing. Roasted malt aroma with hop and citrus notes. Medium body with flavors of smoked malt, caramel and mild citrusy hop. The finish is mildly smokey with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Oak, malt nose. Clear ruby brown, thick yellow head, good lace. Elderberry, oak, sweet. Medium body, soft carbonation, warm. Not a favorite style, but fairly tastefully done.

12 ounce bottle. Best served with kippers. Pours copper with a large thick foamy beige head. I’ve got me kilt on now. Sweet toasted malt nose is splendid. First sip is sweet toasted malt. Sweet and toffeeish with cloying malty malt. Cloying, with mild malty notes. Subtle, yet bold and brash. Rugged and clarevoyant. Way to go Davey!

Bottle pour into tulip glass from Andover Liquors. Appearance is lightly hazy dark reddish amber with nice sparkle, finger-width beige foamy head with poor retention and nice sudsy lacing. Aroma is tropical fruit with astringent citrus over caramel malty backbone. Taste is sweet caramel malts with tropical fruit and earthy bitter resin. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture, average carbonation and sweet over bitter finish. Overall, strong aroma and flavor with good balance.

Bottle from West Side. Pours a deep copper to light brown with a finger of beige foam. Light dried toffee and grapefruit citrus nose. ruby red grapefruit, dried caramel and orange on the palate. Dry finish w/ zesty bitterness. It’s a scotch ale from Lagunitas and it does what you think it would! --- Beer merged from original tick of Lagunitas Davey Murray's Best Scotch Ale on 21 Apr 2017 at 22:07 - Score: 7. Tap at side door. Amber brown body, filtered. Pretty big and sweet, like they dextrosed it up Chicago style. Pretty solid scotch ale still, big speCialty malts, smoky.

Poured into a thistle, the appearance was a ruddy burnt brown transparent color with a sustaining finger’s worth of white to eggshell white foamy head gently dissipates. Speckled sticky lace.
The aroma smelled like baked caramel nut cookies. Some grassy hops hit some cereal to toasty and earthy tones and then a touch of alcohol.
The flavor seemed pretty much the same as the aroma with a stronger boozier sort of leathery dryness rubbing against my tongue. Blended grassy to leathery booziness hits in the aftertaste and rolls right on into the finish, semi-sticky.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium bodied with a good carbonation hitting all around. ABV felt appropriate for what the brewer projected.
It’s smooth, I will give it that.
Overall, me, I’m not quite sure about this scotch ale, seems like there’s a lot of potential here, but I see a couple things that could be changed up to make this one a stellar one of it’s style.
