Bottle from kp. Thanks Keith! Pours yellowish black with little head. Sweet aroma that smells a lot like coffee syrup (or whatever that stuff I experienced in Rhode Island was called). Some grain, coconut and tobacco notes also in the aroma. The aroma is much more complex than the taste, and is the kind of aroma you want to just sit there and take in. Taste is sweet-bitter in that order. Starts off with sweet maple, chocolate and coffee notes and moves quickly into coffee ground bitterness. Decently balanced. Alcohol is very warming.

sampled at DLD - Pours black with a thin tan head. The aroma is of dark roast malt, chocolate, and some dark fruits. It has a robust flavor with, for the style, a surprising amount of dark fruit flavors to go with the roast malt and coffee. It’s sweet, full bodied, and finishes dry. This beer is really excellent. More please. Now please.

Bottle. As sweet as this baltic porter is, it is not cloying — balanced by roasted malts and licorice. Opaque brown pour with a frothy, but short, head that diminishes quickly. The enticing aroma is sweet with molasses and caramel. There are strong notes of roasted malts and licorice and hints of sweet chocolate and plums. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. Dry, bitter finish. Medium body and watery texture with a middle-of-the-road carbonation. The body was less full than expected and perhaps that is one of the reasons this seems like a dangerous drinker — clean throughout. Very nice, indeed.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of Zinister. 2007 vintage. Pour is deep black with a 1/2 inch deep tan head. Head fades quickly to just a small swirl on top of the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, tobacco and some old worn leather. Taste is a really nice blend of the roasted malt with smoke and tobacco. Some licorice and soy in the taste as well. Really quite a bit going on in this one. The finish has the acidic bite that I love in an Imperial / Baltic porter. Nice full palate. Integrates the alcohol really well. I had been a bit underwhelmed by the regular Duck Rabbit line up, but this is really good. Thanks for holding one of these back for me Mike.

Courtesy of Degarth. Pours deep dark with dark brown edges and tan foam ring of foam. The aroma is a bit of roasty malts, bigger burnt malts follow shortly after along with chocolate malts, coffee grounds and a mild earthiness. Really nice aroma but missing the dark fruity esters that are a typical contributor to the Baltic Porter style. The taste is thick and rich and velvety. I get roasty malts, burnt malts, coffee and chocolate malts that seem very much like an Imperial Stout. There is a sweetness that runs underneath all the roasty malt notes. Very enjoyable but misses the style in flavor and aroma.

Bouteille 12oz, courtoisie de Hogtownharry. De couleur noire-rouge et opaque. Nez fruité (raisins sucrés, traces de prunes), de malt rôti aux petites notes fumées, moyen d’alcool, léger de café et légèrement épicé (réglisse noire, notes de cannelle) avec des notes de chocolat noir et de sucre brun. Moyenne-ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture riche, moyennement sirupeuse et crémeuse. Goût très fruité (raisins sucrés aux petites notes vineuses, moyen de cerises noires, notes de prunes et traces de figues) accompagné d’un léger goût épicé (léger de réglisse noire, traces de cannelle), des notes de vanille et des traces de crème (petites notes lactiques) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût moyennement amer de malté rôti (notes brûlées et traces de fumée), moyen de chocolat, léger de mélasse et avec des notes de sucre brun et des traces de caramel. Parallèlement, l’on retrouve un goût d’alcool réchauffant jusqu’en finale avec un léger goût de café et de houblon herbeux. Post-goût long, moyennement amer de rôti, d’alcool, de houblon herbeux, léger de chocolat noir et de café ainsi qu’un goût fruité (moût de raisins et de cerises).

Bottle. (trade w/the_epeeist) Pours black, with a brown head. Chocolate, licorice, some coffee, burnt and roasted malt, in short terms, all the good stuff, in the aroma. The flavor follows up the good start, with a little salty note added, like the saltyness in salty licorice, and the coffee is a bit more evident. The fullbodied beer has a long finish with sweetness, some saltyness and licorice. Really, really nice. (070809)

Bottle from EithCubes - Thanks! Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Vast aroma of roast and cocoa. Its got that bit of vanilla sweetness, yet a hint of smoke. Taste is rich with dark fruitiness, roasted malt, and chocoalte/mocha notes. Very smooth and creamy. Excellent.
