Watergeus is a blend beer composed of at least five careful selected barrels of spontaneous fermented beers which matured for at least two years in our beer cellars. Inspired by the Brussels tradition, this beer is wood-fired in copper kettles and matured in oak barrels. The result is a unique, refreshing, slightly sour and complex beer with tastes of apple, citrus, oak, cellar, soil and …

(375ml 03/17 bottle @ Proeflokaal MOUT, Groningen, Aug 24/17) Pours a lightly hazed pale orange with a big loose white head that fades with lace. Aroma is qutie funky overall with lots of horseblanket/stable notes of hay, earth, sweat and very light cheese, but also quite bright citrus and fresh green apple notes, a little vinous, lightly to moderately oaked with a hint of cereal. Flavour is moderately tart for style, quite funky again with clear old hop influence, hay, musty farmhouse, grapes, slight vinegar, bright lemony citrus, slightly spicy herbal peppery notes, moderate oak, a little musty cellar. Pretty dry in the finish, but not to bone dry levels. Medium bodied with pretty active carbonation. Yeah, this is a great gueuze from a non-Belgian producer. Feels like it sort of sits between the citrusy Lindemans and deeper Beersel characters, a nice surprise!

Clear and nice amber actually. Nose is sour, lots of fermentation has contributed to that. Lambic feel, sour acidity. Bitterness comes out in the middle, citrus there, dry and bitter applepeel. Great stuff, really complex and multi-faceted.

Deep golden color. My friend David said this smells like his attic, I’ve never been there but I think I believe it. This is funky, with tons of cobwebs. Slightly sweet, great cobwebs, lemon, stewed apricot, milddew, so leather everywhere. Just so deep and complex. So much complexity. So sour and just wow. Very impressive.

2014 750mL at Grana Padano 2 share on 6/10/17.
Clear, brassy-blonde with light coppers and plentiful carbonation creating a small, white head.
Smells very Oud Beersel-reminiscent with some definite Boon-like character, as well, though not terribly given-over to green apple, thankfully. Tons of cidery, leathery, lightly cheesey character with fruity Brett and musty cellar lingering nicely. Not too shabby at all! Even a touch of honey-like malt and light cereal/biscuit character from the wheat that helps soften the acidic/musty/cidery elements. Aromatics are pretty high, as well and there’s no flaw or alcohol and no surplus of lactic acid (nor any distinct acetic acid).
Sweet-ish, in the mouth, at least for a gueuze, creating a very soft, malty texture that throws plentiful honey about the palate which is able to balance the dry, leathery, lightly oaky/wooden character of the beer quite easily. Perhaps the relative lack of sourness here highlights the malt, as the beer isn’t too sweet by any means. It’s just only moderately tart at best. Pepper, soft oak, cider and leather linger pleasantly. Very nice mouthfeel and tight, natural carbonation make for a very gentle, mild, but surprisingly "Gueuze"-like experience. I’m impressed and would definitely seek more of TvdB’s sours out.

Bottle at tasting. Golden pour. Aroma of horseblanket, tart, grain and old hop. Taste of horseblanket, tart, grain, oak, mild citrus, green apple and a tart finish. Quite nice, especially for outside the region.

Bottle - Intense soured grape and farmhouse funk. Clearish orange with a nice beige head. Balsamic, acidic, apple and a bone dry finish. Brilliant nose, but taste is a bit aggressive. Still very nice from a non Belgian.
