This is our Ol’ Faithful. No, it’s not a geothermal phenomenon. It’s the beer everybody, including professional beer judges, just seems to dig. Maybe they like how it’s smooth, medium-bodied, and semi-sweet, while not too heavy or bitter. Maybe it’s the amber color, or the blend of four imported malts balanced by two Germanic hops, or the fact that it takes five weeks to get right. Or maybe it’s all the above.

Malts: Vienna, Pilsner, Dark Munich, CaraAmber
Hops: Northern Brewer, Saaz

Somewhere: Pours an amber colour with a whitish head. Aroma is light caramel and lightly roasted malts. Taste is slightly sweet, with a slight caramel finish towards the end. The hoppiness is very slightly present and manifests itself towards the end. Nice mouthfeel. Pretty good, but not outstanding.

Served on draft as part of a sampler at the brewery. Pours a copper color with a small head and moderate head retention and lacing. The aroma is full of toasted malts with some fruity notes. Taste is toasted malts with some fruity notes and nicely balanced bitter hops. Medium bodied. Maybe the best vienna lager I have ever had. Bravo.

I have had this numerous times over the years and I have always been very pleased by it. Rerating it because even the old score (3.8) doesn’t do it justice.
