My least favorite of the four Harvest varieties. Nose and taste of fermented cherry, dark fruits, chocolates and wood. Rated 6/28/04

Bottle 275ml. @ home.[ Trade by GAManiac ]. Light light unclear medium brown amber color with a small, fizzy - virtually none, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, grey white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, oxidide, sweet drie berry, prune, raisin, wood - port, light alcohol. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, wood - tobacco. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - syrupy and sticky, carbonation is soft, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. [20100419]

Cashew and oak aroma, toffee notes on the edge. Murky brown, with a multitude of chunks, thin yellow head. Outrageously sweet caramel and cashew flavor, with distinct undercurrents of creosote. Alcohol evident. Complex, but cloying and syrupy. It doesn’t taste infected or tainted, just not enjoyable for what it is supposed to be. Drinkable, but does not fit my broad definition and appreciation of beer.

1st January 2009. Cloudy brown beer. Short lived creamy head. Intense sweet malt. The port coming through with mild spicy black fruit in the mid and again presenting with some subtle creamy red fruit at the end. All very well joined up. Warming afterglow. Easily the best of the handful of port barrel beers I have tried, perhaps because Crusted port usually has a pretty intense flavour and this has carried through the barreling rather than getting a bit lost.

Hazy amber brown beer, small tan. Smooth palate, slightly viscous, decent fine carbonation. Soft creamy malts, good salted caramel and ripe fruits. Whisper of red wine if you are looking for it. Smooth and spicy finish. Nice brew, but in context of its barreling, a disappointment because it's hard to tell it has been anywhere near a port barrel unlike the one I tried 14 years ago, which was tres Porty.

2007 bottle. Hazy-chunky pale amber. Has an oxidized malt aroma with light florals and abundant wood. Thick, but with almost a canned mushroom character at first. Sweet with a woody finish - certainly the characters don’t come together. As it warms, a spicy wood/tobacco note emerges that has a little more flair than the dull chilled liquid of ten minutes ago. But it’s still a bit oxidized, maybe skunked, and I wonder if the lighter glass on the bottle has something to do with that.

275 ml bottle 2006 vintage shared by Kaggie97. Pour is hazed, chunky, cloudy orange brown with only soapy white bubbles. Aroma of sweet caramel, raisins, briney salt water and woodiness. Taste is the salty, peaty, caramel maltiness. Also some raisins and soy. The port wine notes are present mid-palate and through the after taste. Palate is very drying, more than the others.

Pours hazy, syrupy oragnge into a snifter. Got chunky once reached about a 3/4 of an inch left in the bottle. Honey soaked bread with a tart grapejuice finish.

Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy amber color ale with loads of floaters and a small head with minimal retention and light lacing. Aroma consists of sweet malt with some light dry fruits also discernable. Taste is also a mix between some sweet English style malt with some notes of dry fruits such as figs and raisins. I was expecting port to be more prominent but it was very subtle. Full body with limited filtration and some low to medium carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well done overall even thought port was not overly discernable.
