Hazy deep amber with tiny off white head. Sweet aroma with plums, caramel, wood and port notes. Sweet and viniuos flavor with port, caramel, wood and port.

(Bottle 27,5 cl) Courtesy of boboski. Slightly hazy amber golden with a beige head. Fat, oxidized aroma with sugary notes of overripe fruit. Very full-bodied with a low carbonation and extremely sugary notes of caramel and fruit. Some fruity bubblegum also! No bitterness. 200608

27.5 cL bottle. Pours hazy amber with a lacing white head. Dense caramel malt and a solid overripe fruity aroma. Flavour is sweet caramel malt. Holds a more smooth toasted malt flavour compared to the sherry cask and also distinctively more vanilla. Also a tad more dry and towards wineous.

Bottle brewed in 2005. Copper amber color with some floaters and only bubbles for head. The aroma is vinous and port (redundant?). Rather medium in body. Quite thick in a way. Not much carbonation. Flavor is sweet, but somewhat balanced with wood. The port is definitely present. Heat is noticeable, but it blends right in and is not bothersome. With time some biting (bitter?) things happened to the top of my tongue. This ale really goes down well. Finishes sweetish, but it works here. Fandangtastic treat.

Pours a clear copper with weak off white head. The aroma is full of fruity esters like fresh ripe plums, figs, dates and prunes. A brief caramel malt note is noticed amid a background of port and wood notes that run the length of the aromatic experience. Very nice smooth tasting barleywine. It seems to begin with ripe cherries, sweet dark grapes, figs, sugar coated plums and stewed raisins. I then get port mixed with maple syrup and wood. The taste winds down on the sweet side with increasing maple syrup, alcohol warmth, wood, caramel and residuel dark fruity esters.

2004. Well this is quite a barleywine. Starts with a huge rich aroma of candied fruits, caramelized sweet malts, swirling with vanilla and oak, vinous, but not so much an obvious port source. The flavor, on the other hand, reveals the port in no uncertain terms. Huge rounded sweet caramelized fruits and even sweeter port engulfs the palate, finding a modest semblance of balance somewhere near the end of it all, with a boozy tingle adding the exclamation point. This is an ale for sipping if there ever was one - like port, a 3 oz serving is more than sufficient. In fact, it was out of the question that I could drink the entire 11.5oz bottle. It wasn’t the strength of alcohol, it was the enormity of the palate, which frankly, detracted from its overall enjoyability, because I prefer something a bit more drinkable. Reddish orange color, some yeast in suspension, small fading head.

Sampled at the Richmond Beer Industry Gathering 2006. 2004 bottle. Crystal clear amber body with no head. Sweet caramel and strong wood aroma. Very sweet caramel and a gentle honey flavor imparted by the port.

Bottle. 2003 vintage. Pours a nice clear copper colour with a small head. Sweet malty dusty aroma. Sweet malty fruity caramel flavor and some woody hints. Sweet malty caramel finish.
