It’s been said, “It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer.” And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA Bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. “Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers,” and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Can. Golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, some grassy and nectary tones with a bit of citrus as well. Flavour is citrus, some floral and mild herbal tones with mild grass and fudge. Nice lingering bitterness in the finish and aftertaste.

Can, thanks PotjeBier! Golden color. Citrus, pineapple and soft oily hops in the aroma. Firm grassy oily hopbitter flavor. Piney. Citrus. Nice.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear copperish gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Toasted caramel, pine and orange on the nose. Palate has more of the same, good bitterness, but maybe a bit too much malt character for a true west coast style. Rich hazy copper and bronze coloured body with a nice three centimetre tall light tan head. Aroma of incredibly bitter and floral hop notes with some resin and grapefruit around, also with some metal, a little bit of alcohol and a dose of flowers near the end as well. Medium to Full-bodied; Pungent hop bitterness up front with citrus and floral bites along with a good malt backbone that shows through the bitterness and also leaves a touch of the metal and pungent grain near the end along with the more citrusey/lemony hop character. Aftertaste is more about the hops, of course, than anything else, but a relatively well-balanced malt make this nice and complex throughout. Overall, a nice and fairly well-balanced beer with more of a hop character showing the lemons, flowers and herbs, but also some light alcohol and a pinch of pepper as ewll on the very end. Nice to sample and a good IPA, but not even really a West-Coast IPA, per se. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Whole Foods in Omaha, Nebraska on 06-February-2018 for US$2,99 sampled at home in Washington less than a month later on 02-March-2018.

MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very fruity, bitter, citrus, resinous, bit dry, more tropical fruits, grapefruit, nice stuff. Aftertaste: tropical fruits, pineapple, mango, bitter finish.

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 7/7/2016. Pours hazy golden amber/light orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, light caramel, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bright citrus/fruity/piney hops and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, light caramel, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, lemon/orange rind, pine, honey, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/fruity/piney hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, sticky/resinous, and fairly grainy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 7.3%. Overall this is a great IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/fruity/piney hops and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink; despite fairly aggressive bitterness and resinous dryness. Neither were overwhelming. A very enjoyable offering.

Tallboy can from Whole Foods Wauwatosa, 8/19/16. Hazy orange, large foamy white head, good retention. Aroma of grapefruit, pith, pale malt, a bit of tropical fruit. The taste is grapefruit, pale malt. Medium bodied, simple, well balanced. Nice beer.
