It’s been said, “It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer.” And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA Bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. “Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers,” and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Pounder: Honeycomb, soil, caramel, pine needle nose, some ash. Hazy amber, medium yellow head. Honey and lemon, tea and lemongrass highlights. Medium body, soft carbonation. Nice malt bill and tasty beer, but it’s way more like the mythical east coast style IPA than west coast style.

Pours a clear medium gold with a firm and slow shrinking head of foam.

Notes of grapefruit and pine with a very wee bit of bread in the smell.

So hoppy with nare a sign of any malt. Plenty of grapefruit some pine yet, to me, mild but ample bitterness.

Nice mouthfeel and great drinkability. A treat.

Many thanks to ThirstyBird for this can! Nice floral nose. The beer starts floral with malty hints. Quite neutral bitter with not too much floralness there. The intense resin bitter aroma dominates the picture, the floral level is low, but it is easy to drink. Bitter-fresh and a bit neutral-malty ending. I miss floral fresh hops or other nice aroma. This one is surely over rated!

From tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014. Light unclear golden color with white head. Hoppy and malty aroma, caramel, citrusy fruity, grapefruit, pine, grassy. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Draft/Fest. A- Citrus, resin, pine, floral. A- Golden color, cloudy liquid, white head. T- Citrus, pine, bitter, floral, subtle caramel. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- A west coast style IPA for sure. Lots of citrus, pine, and resin. And I would tend to believe that it is indeed, overrated.
