It’s been said, “It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer.” And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA Bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. “Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers,” and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Tap at CBC 2014. Beer in the glass deep golden, small head. Fine hoppy aroma. Starts mild hoppy, fine fruity like apricot, light soapy notes. Okay.

Draft at Churchkey. Thanks, Corey, for bringing this to DC! Hazy yellow gold color, huge white head with good lacing and retention. Has the scent of a woman sitting in a meadow. Taste is bittersweet lemon flowers.

Can from Mikkeller online shop; clear amber pour with a big fluffy off white head, big pine and citrus aroma, taste is quite resinous with big hit of fresh pine, grapefruit, mandarin, IBU’s are on the money, only a hint of caramel. Crisp tasting and refreshing IPA.

Hazy golden amber color. Frothy white head that quickly dissipates. The nose is fairly heady with pine, mandarin oranges with a touch of biscuit malt. Well balanced, but not overly hoppy IPA with modest bitter in the finish. Definitely not a West coast IPA by any means, but rather a well made, well balanced, enjoyable IPA. As it warms up, a malty sweetness creeps in.
