It’s been said, “It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer.” And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA Bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. “Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers,” and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Can at Bruce’s in London during Jack’s farewell tasting. Pours clear gold with a light, creamy white head. Some drying citrus in the nose, hints of anise, tangerine. Medium sweet flavor, some dry pale malts, tangerine, grapefruit, general pithy citrus. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Mild resinous pine to finish, dry pine needles too, decent bitterness, grapefruit peel, tangerine. Very nice.

16 oz can purchased at Princeton’s Liquors in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Canned on 7/2/13. The pour is a hazed golden copper with a smallish off white head. The aroma is floral resin, leafy hops with some caramel malt. The taste is a nice balance between the resin floral and the lightly sweet caramel, cracker, malt. Quite fresh and tasty. The palate is medium bodied, soft carbonation, and a dry resin mineral finish. Nice beer.

Tap at OBF. Pours dark gold with a creamy white head. Aroma is hops over cooked malt. Med body. Flavor is quite hoppy - leading to a burn. Not harsh. Smooth compared to many NW IPAs. Seems primarily citrus. Very good.

Casey very kindly brought this along, thanks Casey. Sat drinking this sat at home with Casey, Traci & Loz 08.07.13 Pours golden in fact it might be a little more edging towards straw coloured, slight haze and a white head. Good punchy bitterness, but this is tempered by a malty base. This is reasonabley bitter with a little grapefruit pithiness, but aligned with a good sweetness also, fruity, decent, IPA. 16 oz can from De Bierkoning. Clear golden to orange color. Uneven, off white head with good retention & lacing. Aroma’s: piney hops, some malty sweetness. Retronasal there’s some earthiness, but also bready malts, slightly roasted even. Flavor is rather bitter, slightly fruity. Mouthfeel is a bit thin (for the 7.3% ABV that it has). Finish is still bitter, a bit roasted, a bit herbal. Not the best IPA ever, but definitely decent.
