It’s been said, “It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer.” And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA Bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. “Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers,” and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Pours clear golden with an off white head. Aroma of grapefruit, pine and citrus. Flavour is light moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, citrus, orange, light grapefruit. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, herby hops, fruity hops, sweet malt, citrus - grapefruit. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Light haze on this gold - amber beer. Small pale cream coloured head. Softish palate, fine carbonation. Nice hops - rich floral orange and orange marmalade. Touches of lemon and grapefruit. Sweetish pine. Whisper of peach and hop spice. Finishes semi dry. Well integrated and very tasty.

16oz can. Hazy bright orange-yellow-tan body, Frothy, soapy white head. Bright, oily citrus aroma, similar taste. A really well done IPA, it is pretty West Coast tasting. The hops are quite resinous, oily. Quite balanced despite all the funny talk, toasty golden malt tones. Has some of that nice fresh garlicy hop character that you find in really fresh beers. Well done.

Can at Jack’s farwell tasting, thanks to the man himself, 06/08/13. Lightly hazed folden amber with a decent sized off white head. Nose is bitter hops, tea bags, citrus fruit, bitter grapefruit, pine, dank hops. Taste comprises bitter grapefruit, a good dose of resinous pine, orange pith, caramel, grass. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finish with aggressive hop bitterness. Cracking IPA.

Can thanks to Jack, whom many people consider to be over-rated. It pours clear golden yellow with a medium white head. The nose is juicy pine, passion fruit, orange sherbet, tangerine and mango. The taste is pine, earthy, sherbet, grapefruit, decent bitterness, leaf and some underlying sweetness. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Light-medium body and moderate carbonation. Taste doesn’t quite live up to the smell. A touch watery even. Decent enough nonetheless.

0.5l can - a surprise extra from trade with Dan (pandableh) Big thanks! This is a nice blurry kinda golden colored one with a really nice big and lasting off-white head that's lacing nicely down the sides of the glass. Smells really fresh, tropical and fruity. Lots of piney hops, a undertone of almost tarmac and licorice, frozen strawberries, pineapple and tannins. Really like a dipa should be. It wasn't as fresh in the taste as the aroma lead to believe. It has a soft really prickling carbonation level inside a really thick and almost syrupy malty mouthfeel. Lots of piney resinous hops hits the tongue, malty, light melon concentrate with yeast and a little bit of marmalade. Lots of flavors, but still it tastes a little watery? Did not expect that, but to sum up its quite tasty this. Would not mind having again! 13.07.2013
