Purchased at Binnyβs in Chicago, IL, enjoyed at my good friends place the day after my birthday. Appearance is a dark brown, light tan head. Aroma of whiskey, caramel malt, wood, smells strong and nice. Taste goes down a bit syrupy as it warms, nice whiskey barrel flavor, goes down smooth, enjoyable, happy that I got this.

Bottle. Opaque deep brown pour with a large tan head that leaves excellent lace (absolute curtains of it) and is well retentive. Aromas are of brown sugar, fudge, earth, barrel, cola, coconut, vanillin and light florals. Somewhat leathery with light dark fruit and moderate alcohol. Flavors are roasty, a touch ashy. Big leather, barrel and brown sugar. Char, pretty sweet, some dark fruit, molasses. Big and boozy. Moderate tannin. Cola. A bit bitter overall. Warming. Big viscous body, fuller carbonation for its heft. Sweet but not too sticky. Tannic. I like their low(er) gravity and funkier beers a bit more than this. Still not bad at all.

Bottle: Dark brown in color with a small brown head. Just like the Pirate Noir, this has a big boozy aroma of a sweeter whiskey. There is some roasted malt and woody notes are evident, but the whiskey is overwhelming. That being said, it was approachable with the sweetness of the whiskey as the forefront and bits of roast coming through to offer a little balance. Thanks to soonerchamps in the local beer swap.

Bottle. Pours a clear deep brown with a creamy brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a good amount of bourbon and vanilla with some strong sweet but dark grains. Flavor starts with sweet dark grains with a touch of roasted malts with some underlying vanilla and a bit of a boozy kick in the finish.
