Papegaei is a blond beer with an alcohol volume of 8%. The beer is lightly drinkable and has a rich bouquet of hops. Papegaei is brewed with fresh hop flowers, which means that the flowers are dried but not turned into an extract or pellets, so they keep their natural form (and taste!). The mash of Papegaei contains barley, wheat and oats. Papegaei is a top fermented beer with a second fermentation in the bottle. The beer is neither filtered nor pasteurized.

Papegaei is brewed and bottled by Adam Verstraete at the Deca brewery in Woesten.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a hazy golden colour with a thin white head. Aromas of yellow fruits and candied sugar. Initial taste is sweet with more of the fruity notes, some honey and peppery spice. A tangy hop then lingers on the finish. Quite well balanced. Medium body with fairly low carbonation. Decent beer.

Bottle sourced from Saveur-Biere.com and drunk at home - New 🇧🇪 brewery ✅ - hazy golden pour with a white head. Very sweet with notes of lemon drizzle, getting some apricot, white icing sugar, honey, yeasty and sweet doughy bready malty, spices throughout, warming spiced finish. Ok but borderline too sweet for me.

Hengstdijk aan de Vogel. Hazy golden, white head. Sweet malts, candy, citrus, coriander/clove business. Some sweet girl told me this was her favorite. Had to try it once. It’s likeable. Sweet, boozy, quite some aromas.

@home poured into a teku glass. Hazy pale to medium golden colour, good frothy white head, good retention and lacing. Aroma sweet malt, caramel, grain, light lemon, some banana, hint of peach, yeast. Taste medium sweet and light bitter, malty, bread, caramel, some banana, coriander notes, retronasal malts. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, malty sweetbitter aftertaste, hoppy notes, very nice but expected more.
