At a tasting, thanks DSG, smallish creamy head, opaque black color, aroma of carob and dried figs, with some chocolate and coffee, flavor of coffee, dark chocolate, some chocolate cake and some cinnamon spiciness, just a bit heavy. Quite good but could be better.

Bottle, thanks SirLimpsalot. Black with a small tan head. A lot of chocolate in this one, also vanilla, bourbon, some alcohol and oak. Smooth and nicely balanced. A tasty one.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Bottle run no. 2/2013. 11.9%. Black with a big light brown head. Roasty aroma of coffee, bourbon, wood, some vanilla, a bit of coconut, some dark fruits, some chocolate and a bit of alcohol. Roasty flavor, a bit boozy, sweet, with chocolate, bourbon, a bit of vanilla and some dark fruits. Quite full-bodied. Very good.

Pours pitch black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, oak, vanilla, licorice, coconut, alcohol and hint of coffee. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long warm, chocolate, vanilla, coconut, oak and bitter finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, 22oz, vintage 2012. It pours a very dark brown body under a finger-thick, dense, light tan head. The aroma is very coffeeish, with a nice and pleasant bourbon touch. Cocoa and dark chocolate, some vanilla, wood and some booze. Caramel sauce and a little touch of soy sauce. It’s full-bodied and soft on the palate, quite warming and sweet, with a pleasant bitterness bringing some balance to the accounts. The flavor has coffee, roasted malts, some bread and caramel sauce, a touch of vanilla and wood and quite a lot of bourbon. A hint of coconut too. A bit too much bourbon if you ask me. Only in the flavor though, in the aroma it’s just fine. Lasting finish with roasted malts, caramel sauce, bitterness and dark chocolate. And a good dash of coffee. Overall, too much bourbon in the flavor, but heck, it’s a gorgeous beer anyway. So smooth and tasteful, and really complex as well. Damn, even though it’s too boozy I certainly would like to repeat it. More than once. 140623
