English-style barleywine ale aged in bourbon barrels.

There are many storms out there, all of them perfect in their own way. But there is only one Mother of all Storms and it only happens in Pacific City, Oregon. Based on Stormwatcher’s Winterfest, our English-style barleywine, Mother of all Storms spent many months aging in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Now at its peak, Mother of all Storms delivers deep flavors of toasted malt, bourbon and oak. The finish rewards with whispers of vanilla, toffee and caramel. Best enjoyed with gusts exceeding 60 mph.

Samples @ SBWF 2011. Superb barley wine! The aroma has got notes of vanilla, raisin, salt and alcohol. The flavor has got notes of mint chocolate, vanilla and wood. Creamy, soft texture. This is a massive beer in all aspects. Surprisingly easy to drink, yet very complex.

No head to speak off, over cola-coloured beer. Liquorice, toffee, some fusels and a touch of cheese/(y hops), but generally very sweet-smelling. Very sweet taste, with liquorice, toffee and treacle syrup. Esters as from unripe banana, and Bourbon, especially warming up. Very rich, slick as none, chewy MF. To my taste, it’s just a bit too thick and certainly too sweet to be a real top product. Many thanks to Evan & Matt!

Bottle shared at RBSG. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of baked bread, toffee, caramel, bourbon, charred oak, vanilla and good warming alcohol balance. Nice full mouth feel.

22oz Bottle 2009 vintage thanks to ditmier for sharing this one. Next to the 2007 Strom Watcher (the base beer). Pours out dark brown topped with a small sand head. Aroma was very nice lots of the barrel notes vanilla, bourbon, pit fruit, wood, and some light hops. Taste was more of the sweet barrel notes along with some heat and caramel.

Bomber - possibly from Bottleworks. Pours clear dark garnet with a transient tan head. Sweet aromasof bourbon/vanilla. Full bodied. Sweet, but not sticky. Mild heat. Touch of oak. Flavor is somewhat dark fruit with smooth bourbon, and perhaps a touch of brown sugar. Barleywine as it should be.

Bottle at Papsø’s, vintage 2009
The color is very dark brown, almost black, with a small head. Strange aroma, burnt wood, ruhbarb candies, cut branches, phenol... But the flavor is excellent, starting with a full body, then powerful chocolate flavor, and a stingy alcohol presence that actually fits well in the picture; a woody character; strong bitterness, the final also shows some liquorice and more chocolate. Very good.
