One of the earliest examples of Russian Imperial Stouts in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with aging in mind.
A huge malt body is matched with a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruit and other aromas. The flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages in your cellar.

(Bottle, 0 355 l - bottled 06/11/15, at BrewDog Helsinki, 20160601) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, liquorice, dark chocolate and ash. Palate was full bodied and oily with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, liquorice, sweetness, ash, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt and bitter. A well done balanced imperial stout.

Bottle. Black color with beige head. Aroma is liquorice, prunes, coffee, not so chocolaty. Taste is more liquorice and prunes, quite sweet. Silky mouthfeel, nicely light. A classic Imperial Stout.

Bottled:
Pours black with a mid sized head. The aroma has loads of sweet licorice with smoked meat and biscuits in the background. Creamy and smooth mouth feel. The taste is quite sweet and the licorice shows up again. Then there’s coffee and cocoa leading to a warming finish.
Yummy!

(355ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, May 10 2016) Pours pitch black with a small head of fine tan bubbles lingering with spotty lace. Aroma is semi sweet, nougat, molasses, moderate roast, stewed dark fruit, roast nuts, cocoa, slightly burnt. Flavour is fairly dry and smooth with a molasses and toffee core, more nougat, complex toasted grains, some fig, cacao, nutty, just a hint of smokiness. Finish is long, with lots of roast driven complexity. Medium-full oily body with below average carbonation and no alcohol heat. No adjunct bells and whistles, just a beautifully crafted straight-up imp stout. Very sippable and very drinkable in equal measure.

355 ml bottle from Saveur Bière, pkgd 11/06/15. Thanks to Werckmeister!
Pitch black, oily body, with a small, dense, coffee-colored head.
Aroma of espresso, liquorice, soy sauce, cocoa, dark chocolate, tobacco, spices, vanilla, dark fruits.
Tastes of various, intense coffee notes, tobacco, wood, liquorice, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, dark fruits, some soy sauce, some hops.
Full, creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes dry, roasty-bitter, wooden, with coffee beans, liquorice, tobacco, dry cocoa, spices, some soy sauce, some bitter hops.
Tasty, although I was expecting a bit more maybe. Intensely roasty-bitter and dry, almost a bit harsh, with lots of coffee and liquorice notes. Not my preferred kind of an Imperial Stout, I like it a bit smoother, while still a great style example I would drink again.

0.355 l bottle from ’Saveur Bière’, bottled in November 2015. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, brown head. Sweetish, roasty-malty aroma of dark chocolate, mocca, roasted nuts, nougat, some toffee and a bit of licorice. Sweet, slightly roasty-malty taste of dark chocolate, mocca, nougat, roasted nuts and licorice, followed by a long, roasty-bitter, slightly warming-alcoholic finish. Full body, very creamy and viscid mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Not overly complex, but very intense and tasty. Superb mouthfeel, like drinking fluid chocolate. Delicious, although I expected a little bit more complexity, but the bottle might be too young for that.

35,5cl bottle at Pudel, Tallinn. Pours almost pitch black with a modest, beige head. Ooh, rather intense aroma of roasted malt, lots of chocolate, some dark fruits, licorice, coffee and hints of caramel and spices. Certainly some sweetness too it, but complex and flavourful with a nice bitterness. Surprisingly smooth with well integrated alcohol. Yes, some waring alcohol, but quite well camouflaged. Excellent brew - and dangerously drinkable!

(Thanks, Gene! "Travlr") Bottle. A- Dark fruits, port wine, roasty, dark chocolate, subtle smoke. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Tobacco, leather, roasty, bitter cocoa, subtle espresso. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth dry finish. O- Got this bottle fresh and painfully held back from drinking it to get about a year of age on it. Supreme beer indeed. Textbook perfection in just about every way. Beautiful all around.

Flaska från Mikkelllers webshop. Ett öl jag väntat länge på att få prova. Lite annorlunda IS med mycket fruktighet jämte kärva tjäriga rostade smaker. Tännker lite Pannepot möter Kärv IS.
