One of the earliest examples of Russian Imperial Stouts in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with aging in mind.
A huge malt body is matched with a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruit and other aromas. The flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages in your cellar.

Draught @ Malt & Mold. Inky black with very small frothy beige head that leaves a ring, dark fruits, molasses, dark chocolate aroma, adequate carbonation, medium bitter woodsy mocha taste with rum and dark chocolate, thick body, long fulfilling finish. Very satisfying.

Bottle thanks to wombat23. Pours thick and black with a creamy, tan head. Aroma is intense dark chocolate, licorice. Taste is tart up front, full of unripe plum and berry but set against a strong, chewy undertone of chocolate and roasted malt. Finishes much the same, but a bit sweeter. The aftertaste is again tart with a roasted bitterness. Body is thick and chewy, quite sticky. Overall, very good. Nice to have this again after an interval of nearly 20 years.

Pitch black color. Amazingly deep complex nose with molasses, dark chocolate, dark fruit, toffee and caramel. The mouth shows modest roasted malt with tons of dark fruit, dark chocolate, toffee. Low carbonation. The palate is just perfect balance of bitterness and sweetness. Alcohol only shows up in the finish. Just amazing and a benchmark imperial stout. Just amazing.

Thin dark brown head left a collar on a very dark brown oil slick. Coffee, licorice, aniseed & burnt aromas. Medium bodied, super smooth & oily on the palate with minimal carbonation - it just slides down! Bitter burnt coffee, dark berries, coal & demerara tastes with a really bitter tangy finish.

Finally, after being on my wantlist for years... 12 oz. bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar, Escondido, CA. Bottled October 2016. Pours pitch black. Thick light brown head with pretty good retention and some lacing. Aroma's: roasted, coffee, mocha, some red fruit, alcohol. Retronasal it's sweetish, molasses, chocolate, mocha, some red fruit, toffee. Flavor is above moderate sweet, molasses, chocolate, roasted. Pretty much full bodied. Very smooth mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Alcohol is warming but not at all sharp. Long finish, roasted, light moderate bitter. Wow! Forget all the hypes, this is an awesome imperial stout!
