The dark member of the Švyturys traditional collection which has been brewed since 1965. Awarded multiple times worldwide, the dark red Švyturio Baltijos beer stands outs for its flavour of roasted malt, caramel and brown bread. It has a profound sweetness of malt with a light aftertaste of dried plums and chocolate.

$4 for a half liter at the local beer store. A new addition to their shelf. Very pretty bottle, foil top and all and the bottle is unique in shape. Yes, a sweet candy aroma. Appears to be a little darker than your typical pale lager but it certainly is not a ’dark’ beer per se. Scummy creamy thin head. Taste is a tad strong, wouldn’t think of this as an octoberfest IMHO. Shows its 6% rather forward on the palate. Decent carbonation for a stronger brew. Finish is a tad medicinal and hangs for a while. Overall, nears a strong lager session experience. A little more than what was expected in personality and strength.

Flaske 0,5l kjøpt fra Alko Muonio. Mørk gyldenbrun på farge. Et høyt kremaktig skum som varte lenge. Pent å se på. Veldig forsiktig aroma: Svak duft av søt frukt. Lite kullsyre. Smaken er behagelig og forsiktig med masse nyanser av ristet malt, frukt og krydder. Smaken sitter lenge i og etterhvert dukker det opp litt tørr bitterhet. KI=5

Bottle, 5.8% as Baltijos Dark Red. Clear light brown colour. Very small tan head. The flavour is caramelly in OK balance with the alcohol. A little sweetness and something that reminds me of anise in the finish. Mild carbonation, OK mouthfeel.

0.5L bottle. Small, stable, lasting light brown head. Medium brown colour with some light copper streaks, strong malty aroma presence with strong caramel and some metallic notes. strong malty presence continues in the flavour with caramel and some toffee sweetness coming behind. Body is medium and the aftertaste is sour but not too long. Good beer.
