[9/27/11] Mahleket Hanikot Shotrim ’11 tour. Draught at The Wharf in Aalborg. Black-colored with a creamy light brown head. Roasty aroma with coffee, burnt wood notes and a bit of vanilla hints. A rather dry roasty flavor with a bit of sweetish notes at first, some coffee and a burnt bitter finish. Somewhat creamy nitro mouthfeel. A very good Irish Stout. 7/4/7/3/15=3.6

Bottle. Deep brown opaque body, medium to thin tan head. Nose of cocoa puffs, licorice, soy, and a hint of squid aioli. Dry body, bitter and somewhat medicinal with woody roast (sawdust), licorice, soy, and some barely sweet vinous notes. Interesting.

-- Nice oblique black. Ultra-thin beige head. Nose of roasted malt and light chocolate .Light lace. Soft carbonation. AWESOME flavor of roasted malt, Chocolate and light coffee notes. Hops will be present after it warms and leaves a nice dry finish on the palate. Lots of roasted notes in this stout with a light sweetness. Medium bodied with a smooth creamy mouthfeel. A nice traditional stout, excellent example of the style. $ 4.49 for a 330 ml bottle, purchased @ Nikki’s Liquors in Providence, RI.

Draught, 5.6%, KØ11. Mildly roasted aroma, slightly papery. Black colour, small light brown head. The flavour is quite roasted with a hint of coffee. Hard roasted barley bitterness.

Bottle. Very dark brown medium beige head. Flavour is roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, liquorice, dark fruits, little bitter ans hops.

Keg at Porterhouse, Covent Garden. It pours black with a ruby tinge and a thick dense tan head. The nose is roasted malt, smoke and charcoal. The taste is charcoal, toast, rich-roasted malt, liquorice, smoke, bitter chocolate and some caramel, with a long bitter-dry, roasty finish. It is medium bodied and has a creamy mouth-feel. A way above average Irish Stout.

Pitch black coloured body with a touch of a deep cola coloured body when held up to a light with a nice thinnish brown head. Aroma of licorice, aniseed, fennel and anything else that you can think of with that same exact aroma - potent roasty malt of course, but the anise is uncanny. Medium-bodied; Deep assertive roasty flavours at first with the bitter licorice tastes and a deep too burnt coffee like starbucks crap. Aftertaste shows a pungent side with hardly any sweetness, not much complexity and a deep and lingering licorice and roasty flavour with some nuts and earth coming through as well. Overall, not so great - showing too much roasty and aniseed flavours - even for the style. Crazy that I sampled this in a bottle in the states (purchased here too!) but that’s how it is sometimes - I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 08-May-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 03-June-2011, although I can remember the feel of the brewpub in Temple Bar, Dublin on Friday nights when drinking this beer!

Draft at Charlie’s bar, Copenhagen. Reminded me of Guiness in both appearance and flavor, but slightly more bitter and a little smokey. (Notes from offline rating)
