This big mother of a Russian Imperial Stout is often considered one of our true classics. Despite the 13% ABV, you'll find Black Albert to be dangerously drinkable. With its thick, tar-like body, it's definitely a sipper, but the alcohol is very well-hidden.

Bottled March 22, 2022, drunk May 5, 2023. Clear black, small, dark beige head, moderate retention. Nose is prune, red wine, cocoa dusting, light vanilla, soft Belgian esters and a bit of chocolatey fudge malt. Tame on the alcohol, though definitely some peppery, spicy phenolics. Clean. Soft, malty, well-attenuated, lots of cocoa character. Not overly belgian in character and it definitely drinks like a stout not a BSA. Which is fine. Solid, flawless execution, super clean and snappy. Not boozey.

375 mL bottle, shared with Albert (because, of course). Pours black, with a small, tan head. The aroma is toffee, black chocolate, almond, cherry brandy, and cloves. Sweet and malty, with a mellow bitterness. Heavy body, chewy, and thick, and chalky. Yeasty and delicious.

On tap at As Is. Pours black. Liquorice, fig, blueberry, roast dark chocolate, earthy roast, lingering tobacco smoke, prune juice, vanilla, coffee. Oily but not particularly full body. Very good.
